Cal State Northridge head men's volleyball coach Jeff Campbell announced the naming of Theo Edwards as his top assistant coach on September 28, 2010. "We're very excited to have a former Matador, Theo Edwards, join our coaching staff," said Campbell. "He's not only a great volleyball player but a fantastic individual who will work well as a coach in our system. Theo will also be a great representative of Cal State Northridge as well as Matador volleyball." Edwards, who played for the Matadors from 2006-2010, spent the past summer hosting volleyball clinics around the country as the lead coach for Gold Medal Squared Elite Volleyball. He was also head coach of the Achieve Volleyball Club 14 and under squad from 2007-2010. Edwards also has experience assisting with the Bishop Alemany boys volleyball team for the past three years. A 2010 graduate of Cal State Northridge, Edwards had his finest season in 2010 as the Matadors reached the NCAA Tournament semifinals. He led the team with 379 kills and a 3.32 kills per game average as Northridge finished the season 23-10. Edwards completed his four-year Matador career having appeared in 62 matches and 189 sets. He amassed 494 kills (2.61 kpg) in 1,220 attacks while also contributing 26 aces, 200 digs and 102 total blocks. A five-time Dean's List honoree from 2006-2010 as well as a Northridge Varsity "N" academic recipient from 2006-2010, Edwards earned his bachelor of arts degree in Behavioral Sciences in 2010. "I'm really excited to begin my collegiate coaching career at Northridge," said Edwards. "I've been here for the past five years and I take a lot of pride in this program. I have seen this volleyball program come a long way and have a lot of success and I'm very excited to continue to be a part of something really special."

Mike Arone opens his eighth season as a volunteer member of the Northridge coaching staff in 2010. His current tenure is the longest by a Matador assistant in the team’s Division I history. A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Arone grew up in Bakersfield and graduated from West High School in Bakersfield in 1993. While in high school, Arone competed in both baseball and basketball. He then went on to Bakersfield College from 1993 to 1995 before enrolling at Cal State Northridge in 1996. Arone played volleyball for the Matadors in 1997 and 1998 earning letters both seasons. Played primarily as a defensive specialist over his two-year Matador career before graduating in 2000 with his bachelor of science degree in kinesiology. Arone also has coaching experience working with the Southern California Volleyball Club and is in his fifth year working as a Physical Education teacher at Willow Elementary School in Agoura Hills, Calif. Mike and his wife Laura, who were married on Aug. 22, 2009, reside in Reseda.
