St.Lucia ready for 2010 ECVA Women’s Championship. The Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility in the north of the island is expected to be a hype of activity as seven teams from the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Zone will arrive in St. Lucia on Wednesday 23rd June 2010 in attempt to dethrone host nation St. Lucia as the Champions of the ECVA. According to Brian Louisy President of the St.Lucia Volleyball Federation, “St. Lucia continues to be the team to beat in Volleyball and this year once again on home soil, St. Lucia will be trying to stamp its authority on Volleyball in the region.” The tournament runs from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th. Matches in this year’s tournament will be played in the morning, afternoon and evening, all evening matches are expected to commence at 6:00 pm promptly. This year there will all to play for as a place in the 2011 NORCECA Continental Championships scheduled for Mexico is at stake. The St. Lucia Volleyball Association as host is being supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, LIME, WLBL, ECFH, LUCELEC, Natapure and J.Q. Charles Group of Companies and the host hotel is Palm Haven Hotel.

WIMBLEDON, England - Dustin Brown, the most accomplished tennis player in the history of Jamaica, was born in Germany and trained by an American before polishing his game near the picturesque shores of Montego Bay. He remains a man of worldly influences, fluent in German and English, with distinct dreadlocks and a serve-and-volley style. But Brown’s rise into the top 100, his first Wimbledon singles appearance and his late-blossoming career can all be traced back to an unlikely vehicle - a Volkswagen camper van. “That camper was basically my last chance,” he said Sunday, on the eve of his first-round match against 16thseeded Jürgen Melzer. Brown’s parents purchased the van in 2004. Inge Brown and her husband worked in tourism in Jamaica, and although those jobs provided necessities, the family was far from rich. Brown said he hoped for change in the future, but for now, Wimbledon beckons. Even his mother said it felt “unrealistic, like a dream.” Brown - speaking, appropriately, on Father’s Day - said it was a dream that would have died without his parents. The camper remains in Germany, and Brown still uses it each time he returns, driving to practice, the movies or the supermarket. Even now, it serves as a reminder of where he came from. “When I see that van, I think that everything is possible,” Inge Brown said. The Browns made their final payment on the camper earlier this year. The next week, fateful or otherwise, Dustin cracked the top 100.

nCAA ChAMpiOnShip St. Lucia’s Jeremiah James off to NCAA 2010 appears to be another great year for St.Lucia sportsmen and sportswomen on the regional and international scene,for the likes of Levern Spencer, Darren Sammy, Danielle Beaubrun, Sonia Huxley, Rick Valcin and Aloysius Henry. Another St. Lucian has joined in. Jeremiah James will represent the University of Wyoming at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, on Wednesday 9th Saturday 12th June 2010 in Eugene, Oregon. A member of Morne Stars Athletics Club in St. Lucia, Jeremiah was the only qualifier from Wyoming, following the NCAA West Region Preliminary meet. Jeremiah entered the meet with the seventh best triple jump in the West Region and ended up taking the 12th and final spot in the NCAA Championships. “We are thrilled to get at least one person to move on,”

said UW head coach Don Yentes. “He hung tough, but had a couple jumps where he dragged his foot that probably would have put him a little higher but we are very happy to have him move on.”

If Cuba plays it right, thousands of tourists could eventually be swinging their clubs at an 18-hole golf course overlooking the turquoise waters and golden beaches just east of Havana. They will moor their yachts at a swank marina and drive electric carts to luxury villas built around the course's scenic artificial lake. The long list and alarming number of banned substances that are obtainable by athletes who want to improve their performances in sporting competitions were revealed to Bahamian athletes and coaches on Saturday, by the Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC), at the first anti-doping seminar. President of the BOC, Wellington Miller, stated that a common drug used everyday can be considered as an enhancing drug. As a result of this, Miller said that the seminar was a timely event. He said that the BOC will continue to host it as they try to educate not only athletes, but coaches as well, about the dangers of using performance-enhancing drugs. The anti-doping seminar was held in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Caribbean Anti-Doping Organization (RADO), the National AntiDoping Commission and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

lEvERn SpEnCER WinS BROnzE in nORWAY St. Lucia’s World Class high jumper maintained her status as one of the world’s best female high jumpers when she cleared a mark of 1.94 metres to win a bronze medal in Norway. Levern was at the time competing at the prestigious ExxonMobil Bislett Games in Oslo. This competition which was a diamond league meeting, featured some of the best in the world in Spain’s No.1 Ruth Beithia, Russia’s joint No. 1 Irina Gordeeva, and Sweden’s No.1 Emma Green all of whom were defeated by the prolific high jumper from St. Lucia competing in her biggest meet for this outdoor season. With this performance she maintained her record of medaling in every competition she has entered in this outdoor season. This event was won by world outdoor and indoor champion Blanka Vlasic of Crotia with the world leader for 2010 Chaunte Howard Lowe of the United States of America placing second. They both cleared a mark of 2.01 metres. Spencer continues her 2010 European tour with other diamond league meetings.

On Tuesday night, Trinidad and Tobago defeated hosts St Lucia 57-45 in the decisive match of the 2010 AFNA Championships to finish on top of the six-team group. Professional Bermuda show jumper Patrick Nesbitt won the FEI Grand Prix Lipica in Slovenia aboard his mount Cantaro. Nesbitt beat out two other riders in a jump off to win the event which was a World Cup qualifier and a 1.60 metre Grand Prix. Nesbitt was one of three riders with no faults after the first round from a starting field of 29 riders. In the end the Bermudian was the only double clean rider of the Grand Prix. And he also placed second on one of his other top mounts, Count Alaric, on the final round of the bronze tour. Taking second place to Nesbitt in the Grand Prix was Austria's Johann Zuchi on Apollo v Pachern while third place was taken by Primoz Rifelj from host country Slovenia on Dashmir K.

ThE WORlD’S fASTEST MEn in STOCKhOlM STOCKHOLM meeting director Rajne Soderberg confirm that Bolt, World 100-metres record-holder will take on US sprint rivals Tyson Gay and fellow Jamacian Asafa Powell in the IAAF Diamond League meet here on August 6. The race will mark the first time that history’s three fastest men will compete together since the 100-metres final at last year’s World Championships in Berlin where Bolt set the world record, clocking 9.58, with Gay second in 9.71, then a US record, with Powell, the former world record-holder, taking bronze. “It is a great pleasure to confirm and host this exciting race,” said meeting director Rajne Soderberg. “It will strengthen the meeting’s positioning within the world of sports.” The race will also be the first of just two meetings between ‘The Big Three’ this year, with the second clash set for the Diamond League final in Brussels on August 27. The Stockholm meet is the 11th of the 14-leg IAAF Diamond League series. Powell and Gay had previously been confirmed for the event, while DN Galan organisers had worked to secure the financing for Bolt’s participation.

Multi-talented Flora Duffy is having quite a week. On the weekend she finished 20th in the Hy-Vee Triathlon in Des Moines, packed her bags and flew to Minnesota to compete in the Nature Valley Grand Prix. She is riding with the Fiber One Collegiate All-star team in the Nature Valley races. In the St. Paul Criterium on Wednesday, Duffy crossed the line with the main pack so even though she was officially 34th, her time was the same as the winner. Earlier in the day she competed in the St. Paul Time Trial and was 64th, 1:43 behind winner Alison Starnes of Team TIBCO. Overall, she ended the day in 57th place. 6

La 60ème édition du Tour cycliste de la Guadeloupe, débutera le 06 août par un prologue dans les rues de Pointe à Pitre. Un Tour 2010 toujours aussi international avec 180 coureurs, de l’allemagne, de la Suisse, de l’Espagne, et avec un plaisant accent des îles par la présence de la République Dominicaine, de Puerto Rico, de Martinique, Guyane et Vénézuela. On s’attend cette année encore à une très belle compétition sur les routes de Guadeloupe. Mais on regrettera l’absence cette année encore de Willy ROSEAU, le Martiniquais champion de la Caraïbe en titre.

Mr McIntosh worked for more than 10 years in investment banking and business development. Prior to joining SportsMax, he served as a Vice President at Merrill Lynch International in London, with responsibility for clients in the Diversified Industrials Group, which included media & entertainment companies. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch International, he worked for the CFO of The Home Depot as a Business Development and Mergers & Acquisitions officer and as a financial analyst for Salomon Brothers Inc. He is also a former Director of the National Water Commission in Jamaica. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School (’98) and a BBA in Actuarial Science from Howard University (’93)

SportsMax the Jamaican Based Cable Sports Channel who is currently

broadcasted in more than 23 islands has invited us to the launch of its landmark event dedicated to the World Cup: the “SportsMax Sport Bar”. This Sports Zone, located in Kingston Business District, is a new concept of Sports Bar develops by

the SportsMax Company intending to be the HeadQuarter for football lovers during the World Cup. In order to tell us more about this SportsMax initiative we had the opportunity to meet with Oliver Mc Intosh President / CEO of SportsMax Limited.

Sport is an event it is not just a game… From where this sport bar initiative is coming from? I think for us he came about after we bought the right for the World Cup for the Caribbean. When was that? In 2007, we acquired the rights for the world cup for 2010 and 2014. FIFA required that the World Cup is Broadcasted on free air Channel if there is one available in the country and our company is broadcasted on cable. So we had to sale the rights to a broadcaster. Now that being said we “SportsMax” as a company we do a lot of sport marketing and we work on events, so we work with basketball associations, football associations, golf associations, cricket associations…etc… Associations here in Jamaica or all-around the Caribbean? We worked with sport associations all around the Caribbean.What we do is essentially to help them to raise sponsorship and to plan their events.We most recently just finished the knock out competition here in Jamaica call the Flow Champions Cup (FLOW is Jamaica’s leading broadband communications provider), which is the island wide knock out football competition.

And what is the link with this World Cup dedicated Sport bar idea? As we worked on all this events, at the back of our minds it is always the World Cup. So we said to us “ok, we are doing all this event for other people, we own the right to the world cup, why we don’t present the World Cup a little differently than it has been presented in the past”, because we have the expertise of creating events out of sport and worldwide that is what sport is about. Sport is entertainment, sport is an event it is not just a game. In our case it is not only 22 people around the field it is an event. American teach us the best, I think, how to make an event out of sport. Look at the NFL or the NBA! When I am in the state and when I go to this game if I don’t see 10 min of the game it is fine because I am already entertain….You know, you are going there and you have store, restaurant and give away and action going out outside the stadium. Last year we went to the NBA western conference semi-final: it was New Orleans again San Antonio.We got to the stadium 1 hour and a half before the game and by the time we got into the game we were already tired because they had a band outside, games going on, cheerleaders etc… and we said to ourselves why we can do that for the World Cup, we are a football nation and we need to have something like that.

Then we started thinking: “what could we do?” And we thought about, do we do it in a stadium? or in something already set up? …the problem in the Caribbean and I speak more for Jamaica is for 1) that we don’t have a Sport Bar culture and it is primarily because people hadn’t events around sport. For 2) the structure that exist in Jamaica aren’t like the Sport Bar you see when you travel and you go to an ESPN zone or you going to a Sport Café in London: they are high ceiling, a lot of TV, big screen TV etc… So we had this crazy idea “why we don’t create that?” and that was about 3 months ago.We started working on an event and that is how the concept came about: the world cup is not just a football tournament let’s make an event out of it!

The people coming and participate in something other than watching just a screen... How did you put the concept together, especially in term of sponsorship? Well when we came up with the event we had to figure out where to host it? Who gonna pay for it? And how exactly we gonna present this event? Is it going to be base: Screen TV-Watch the Game-and go

home? or is it something which is a bit more interactive between the people coming and participate in something other than watching just the screen? … We said let’s go for the interactive then we said OK which partner will make sense to make it interactive? - A store that sells football apparel is a perfect partner - COURTS: A furniture store that is across the Caribbean and involved with sport sponsorship already - Digicel:The regional broadcast sponsor of the World Cup - Voltaren: For sport injuries - Advantage General: Because they mainly get more involve in sport and everyone need insurance. So we said well this is a good group of people to work with. And also what we do when we go out and sale sponsorship, we don’t go and just sales something like: “Good Morning, here is the idea and I need some money” What we do first is to ask ourselves the question: How the sponsors will make money out of it? Where is the value the sponsors is going to get? So when we set any events we think how the sponsors is going to get value? Sponsors don’t get as much value anymore by just putting their brand on one or two banners.They want to be interacting:When the people leave the Courts PlayStation rooms they had a good time in a formal setting and they recall their memories of their experience. So it is about Courts but Courts wasn’t trying to sale them, it wasn’t Courts going after them to buy this furniture, or buy this flat TV, or buy this computer, or buy whatever… the memories are more “I played PlayStation for 2 hours in that particular rooms in the Courts furniture. So when they leave and go somewhere they talk to their friends saying “Man you know, yesterday I was at the Courts PlayStation tournament and I came 3rd”, so Courts is in the mind. That what we do when we do all this events: we think of way to get return for sponsors without him having formally trying to sale them to the customer… For instance Voltaren are going to give therapeutic massages, you know, so the message is “I was at the SportsMax Zone and I got therapeutic massage provided by Voltaren” and next time I have a sprained ankle I’ll think Voltaren. So that what it is all about: this SportsMax Zone Concept came from, how we present sponsor in way that is not overly done and the people doesn’t feel like we try to over sales them, everything has to be usefully done. 10

- The Max Box which the VIP Area on the ground floor for sponsor as well We have a betting area where people can bet on game before they start or bet on other sport for that matter. And we have the TV set, we are launching a Sport Talk show on our channel so we thought it is the best time to do it around the world cup. And we are going to have this venue we may have it at the venue so that create the backdrop for the venue.

We have a 216 Inches Screen, it is the biggest screen they have in Jamaica in a restaurant or a Sports bar, we think it is pretty special.You can stand back walk around 50 m and still see clearly…it is a one of a kind experience nobody has done before we think in the Caribbean. RUSSELL NICKNAMED “THE LITTLE MAGICIAN” WHO MANY CONSIDER AS THE BEST PLAYER HAVING EVER PLAYED FOR THE “SOCA WARRIOR”, IS THE MOST POPULAR PLAYER IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. RUSSELL WAS ONE OF THE PIONEER PLAYERS IN THE ENGLISH SPEAKING CARIBBEAN TO PLAY IN EUROPE: HE HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN 4 WORLD CUP QUALIFYING CAMPAIGN FOR HIS COUNTRY SINCE 1986, AS WELL AS PLAYED WITH TEAMS LIKE FC PORTO, BOAVISTA AND THE GLASGOW RANGERS. Tell us, as one of the first Trinidadian players playing in Europe…how did you manage to make it to the professional level? Well I have got really fortunate actually, I have got several tries with English teams such as Bradford City for example and I was even offered a contract but that did not go through because I did not get a working permit at this time. I finally ended playing in Jamaica for 3 years. After that I had to go back to Trinidad in order to take part of the 1986 qualification World Cup campaign with the national team. At this time I had a Girlfriend that was studying in Toronto, anticipating my

lack of time due to the qualifying campaign I thought that was the right time to travel to visit her. As she was working and studying I had the all day for myself and I ended up playing football with my friends, some of them where Portuguese playing with a Portuguese team there. One day they told me to come to play with them. I meet their trainer Mr. Francisco that asked me at the end of the training if I would be interested to play in Portugal, of course I said yes and he took my number. I did not really expect a call. I came back to Trinidad to play for the qualifying campaign and when that was finished I received a call from him and he took me to Portugal.

Your story seems rather unusual among other Caribbean players that went to Europe; did it have an influence on attracting more recruiters or agents to look at the Trinidad and Tobago leagues? At the time, when I started to play there were not much players playing in Europe, Dwight Yorke and I where the first two players (Dwight story is pretty much the following: Aston Villa came to visit Trinidad and saw him and invited him back to England), and due to some of the success Dwight and I had: I think agent and football club are seeing that there are a bit

REnCOnTRE // MEETing // REuniòn of a talent in this part of the world. Nowadays you have quite a few players playing abroad because football agents are coming down here and also players as well here are getting the belief in themselves to go outside to try to fight for an opportunity.

So do you think it provides a good opportunity for the Trinidadians? Yeah I think it is definitely good for young football players.What happens if a lot of young footballers have aspiration to play professionally? The only place where you can really do it is in Europe, so it is good. It is giving young players opportunities to earn a good living and make something of themselves, of their life, with the profession that they choose: football.You know, right now we have players like Kenwyne Jones (Sunderland), Carlos Edward (Sunderland, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ipswich Town), Stern Jones (Crystal Palace)… who are playing in Europe and making a good living, doing well for themselves and their families.

I love being around the football players that is where I am the most comfortable...

Oh yeah!! We have quite a lot of players playing in the USA now.What happened before players used to go to Europe is that they used to go to the USA to further their education and part of this is getting a scholarship and that was already before the MLS as well. After furthering their education some of them eventually play football once the MLS started.What has happened, because it is a closer region than Europe, so you will have a lot of people with contact from the US, so if you had good young players coming above they will straight away be looked at.

How did you end up to be coaching a team? I was not sure at the end of my career, which direction I wanted to head. I knew I wanted to stay into football but I was not sure in what capacity at this time; if it was in administration, coaching… so I played around with everything a bit : Journalism, documentary… but for some reason I got a lot of satisfaction from coaching. I took all my coaching courses. When I went to Falkirk at around 35 years old, I was under a player coach contract. I was the 3rd coach on the 1st team but the 1st coach on the reserve team. So I was doing a lot of coaching from their and loved it straight from day one. I also did some commentary and administration

and this sort of things, but I love being around the football players that is where I am the most comfortable.

How do you define the game you want to develop? The football I wanna play is objective football, because, I wanna win football matches but, I also wanna play a technical type of football, I wanna put the ball down, I wanna pass it above and I wanna be offensive.That is how I wanna play and I try to pass it on to the football players of the team of Trinidad.

exceptional players playing outside the professional league, so we take a look at them and if we see that they can fit into our system, we will invite them to training and get them comfortable around the team, so we can have a closer look at them.We give them opportunities and depending how they will perform it is how long and how far they gonna be part of the team.

When you are talking about exceptional player, are you referring to player in the US? As the coach of the Soca Warriors (the nickname of the team) how you are organizing your selecting and supervising of players? How it works, is that we have a professional league in Trinidad and most of the players are from this league. It is the highest standard of football we have in Trinidad. But in the team we also have 1 or 2

Well you know someday you receive emails from everybody, lets say one is about some young player that score 15 goals in some minor league in the US and as we said earlier we are not discounting those players. Every player who is eligible for Trinidad and Tobago is gonna get his opportunity to play if he is good enough. It is more a question of having somebody to go and have a look at them, and me

also to have a look at them and analyzed if they can fit into the system that now we play. But off course it is difficult sometimes; it is a process of elimination as well as priorities.

What is the size of the pool of player currently eligible? We have right now a pool of 40 players and that is excluding some of the most established players who play in Europe because it is only local players.We are not really going to get Premier league players or English championship players to come and play for the Digicel Cup, the club won’t release them.

Is “Jack Warner connection” of any help to get overseas players release? Well actually, as a former professional player not so long ago, I am reluctant to call professional players for this type of competition, the risk is too high for a

player to lose his status in the team in case a substitute starts to play well during his absence and finally disrupt his progression. I think we should be able to compete at this level with the local players. I prefer working on building around the local players because these are the ones I have for sure.

What are the stakes of the Digicel cup? I donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t want to put too much pressure on the young players. Historically the strongest teams in the regions are Jamaica (4 victories) and Trinidad (8 victories). I want to maintain that hierarchy and therefore we need to play the final.

What is the average age of your team members? The age varies; I always say as well if you are good enough to play you are old enough to play. So we have quite a few young players but we also have 2 or 3 players that are about 30/32 years old

and continue to play well in the league in Trinidad and we will get them and bring them to play. But ultimately my goal is to compete with a team in average under 26 years old.

What are the next steps for you? Well if you get in the first 4 teams at the Digicel Cup you are qualified for the Gold Cup in the US where you can meet the top CONCACAF team in the region like Mexico and the USA. There, we will be able to benchmark the team and see where we are.The Gold Cup is a good gage for us to see as a team where we are? where we need to go ? what we need to learn? how fast we learn? and how we react in a big stadium in front of a big crowd? We will probably try to bring some of the foreign championship players from abroad because at this point you have the World Cup qualification coming the year after. Torneo Ernest Hemingway de pesca deportiva Evocation a Premio Nobel en cada captura

LA HABANA.-QUEDA PARA HISTORIADORES PROBAR QUE HUBO UN SEGUNDO O MÁS ENCUENTROS ENTRE FIDEL CASTRO Y ERNEST HEMINGWAY, PORQUE DEL PRIMER ESTRECHÓN DE MANOS ENTRE AMBOS HAY REFERENCIAS ABUNDANTES EN FOTOGRAFÍAS, TESTIMONIOS Y ARTÍCULOS DE PRENSA. Ese contacto ocurrió hace 50 años durante la premiación de uno de los torneos más antiguos de la pesca de la aguja en el mundo, el Hemingway. Fidel Castro ganó aquel certamen con una tripulación que también incluyó al guerrillero argentino-cubano Ernesto “Che” Guevara y a Celia Sánchez, secretaria personal del entonces primer ministro del gobierno revolucionario cubano. El certamen pesquero cumplió en 1960 su décimo aniversario y Hemingway presidió la ceremonia de premiación durante la cual entregó al líder cubano el trofeo de vencedor. Ambas personalidades intercambiaron

opiniones a lo largo de varias horas, lo cual se evidencia en instantáneas y testigos que presenciaron ese momento. En un principio, el Premio Nóbel rechazó que utilizaran su nombre para denominar al concurso, pero después accedió a instancias de las autoridades deportivas de aquel entonces. Hay muchas razones para que el principal certamen cubano de las varas y los sedales lo nombraran así, en tanto el llamado Dios de Bronce de la literatura norteamericana fue un consumado pescador que encontró en las aguas del Trópico la realización personal más plena.

Había explorado desde la década del 30 del siglo pasado la riqueza de los mares circundantes del archipiélago cubano, donde, según sus propias expresiones, se encontraban los mejores ejemplares para la pesca de altura. El especialista en temas de pesquería, el cubano Ismael León, asegura que tan rica es la faceta de novelista de Hemingway como la de hombre de mar. “Estudió a fondo las corrientes marinas y las artes para capturar peces”, aseguró León.

infORME // REpORTAgE // REpORT Hemingway, apuntó el experto, realizó incursiones en varios tipos de cacerías, incluida la llamada mayor, también en la pesquería de agua dulce y mar, aunque su fascinación estuvo en la de altura, en la cual la lucha entre el hombre y la presa es leal, de acuerdo con el criterio de León. En una oportunidad, el escritor valoró que una de sus capturas peleó tanto por su vida que cuando la subió a la embarcación, decidió soltarla, tal vez un antecedente de la disposición actual de los concursos pesqueros “tag and release”, o sea, marcar y soltar a las piezas para evitar el exterminio. Ese sistema se aplica en el más renombrado en la temporada de los torneos de pesca en Cuba que incluye a otros dos, el del Peto o Wahoo y el de Marlins, ejemplares a los que el escritor y novelista persiguió a lo largo de la corriente del Golfo. Los torneos internacionales de la pesca de la aguja Ernest Hemingway los acoge la Marina de igual nombre, situada en la periferia occidental de La Habana que abarca una serie de dársenas con hoteles o bungalows incorporados. Las prestaciones de esa instalación constituyen un paraíso de los navegantes que quieran pasar una temporada, en tanto ofrece de todo cuanto necesita una embarcación para avituallarse y continuar periplos por el mar Caribe o más allá. Allí, desde siempre han partido los torneos, aunque el novelista prefería ambientes de

menos categoría y tenía surta su embarcación, El Pilar, en Cojímar, localidad marina en la parte nororiental de la capital cubana, donde compartía jornadas con sus amigos pescadores. La asidua presencia del escritor en ese poblado marinero se perpetúa en un busto de metal erigido en su memoria, cuyo costo sufragaron los vecinos para recordar al ilustre visitante. Al parecer de esas relaciones surgió la idea de la obra “El viejo y el mar”, porque quizá alguno de aquellos luchadores del sustento vivió el vía crucis de Santiago, el protagonista de la novela que catapultó a Hemingway hasta el Nóbel.

El famoso torneo cubano de la pesca de la aguja pudiera ser más concurrido si hubiera una apertura del gobierno estadounidense. A los norteamericanos, en virtud de prohibiciones de la Casa Blanca, se les impide participar en esa cita como quisieran y sólo lo pueden hacer con un permiso especial del Departamento de Estado. Una muestra de lo posible si cambia el escenario, ocurrió durante el periodo presidencial de James Carter, de 1977 a 1981. En esa época hubo una flexibilización de las leyes norteamericanos e incluso se restablecieron contactos, entre ellos la creación de oficinas de intereses del país norteño en Cuba y viceversa. De tal suerte que para un torneo Hemingway se anotaron más de 80 tripulaciones norteamericanas, cifra récord. La edición más reciente reunió a más de 130 pescadores de unas 20 naciones, entre ellas Estados Unidos, Canadá, Rusia, Holanda, México y Francia, país que en la cita anterior se llevó la Copa Hemingway , otorgada al equipo del Marlin X, por coronarse tres veces. El ganador del Hemingway’2010 resultó el yate español “El Pilar”, compuesto por el patrón Sergio González, el marinero Sergio Arturo Álvarez y los pescadores José Luis Conde, Felipe Álvarez y Boris Marcelo Bartulín, seguidos por la tripulación del “DC 9 II”, de Rusia, y el “Marlin XVIII”, de Dinamarca.

EN ROUTE POUR UNE MARCHE D’UN PEU PLUS D’UNE HEURE PARALLÈLE À L’OCÉAN, ENTRE LES PLAGES DE TILLET À DESHAIES ET DE CLUNY À SAINTE-ROSE. La simple vue du paysage est capable de pousser les plus réticents, de leur donner l’envie de découvrir d’un trait, cette très courte, mais ô combien succulente balade entre plages et sentiers étroits, avec la mer des Caraïbes en tableau de fond. Le parcours n’est distant que d’environ trois kilomètres en aller – retour et son niveau très facile, permet à tout le monde de l’emprunter.
