PROGRAMS GUIDE

I am excited and honored to continue leading the City of St. Marys Parks & Recreation Department for my 5th year. There have been many amazing things happening for our department over the last 12 months. From securing over $600,000 worth of funding from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Greenways Trails & Recreation, and local donations for the replacement of our beloved 30 year old “Playland” at Memorial Park to completing our Comprehensive Recreation Park & Open Space Plan, I firmly believe that we are on our way to even higher success in the coming years. The support and praise we continue to receive from the community and City Council has not gone unnoticed and for that, I am very appreciative.

I hope that you are pleased to find many exciting and engaging programs for people of all ages and abilities within the following guide. My staff and I have taken a deep dive into the quality of programs that we offer and have revamped many of them. We continue to strive to increase the quality of our program offerings and welcome feedback on input!Inside this guide, you will see many changes that benefit everyone.

It is a privilege to serve our community and I hope visitors to our area enjoy it just as much. If you have any information or concerns to share, please feel free to contact me.

WHAT IS IT?

The City of St. Marys Parks & Recreation Department uses a secure, paperless system called RecDesk to organize and secure your information. This web-based program stores data such as medical conditions, dietary restrictions, in case of emergency contacts, and is used to perform daily tasks to help with the efficiency of the department.

It is the sole responsibility of the participant to have all required information completed within RecDesk prior to participating in any of our programs. At any point in time, you are able to go into your Household Account and change information as necessary.

Please be sure to have each member of your household on the account. If someone does not live with you, they are required to have their own account. This is also the same policy for pool memberships. Only those residing in the same household may be under one membership.

If you need assistance with creating or updating any information within your account, please contact Dani Kugler at 814-781-1718 (ext. 732).

IT IS THE ACCOUNT HOLDER‘S RESPONSIBILITY FOR UPDATING INFORMATION VIA RECDESK.

There is a 3% credit card processing fee associated with each transaction.

All prescription drugs must be given to program staff (typically the Program Coordinators) who will assist the administration of the drug at the designated times. A Medication Administration Authorization Form must be completed by the physician prior to the department administering any medication. This form can be found online at stmarys.recdesk.com or email rec@stmaryspa.gov for this form. The department will not be administering non-prescription medication to participants.

accidents

1.

All park and pool staff are trained in general first aid and CPR. If a participant has an accident serious enough to require professional medical attention, the department will contact the first emergency contact as stated on their registration form. If it is necessary for the participant to go to the hospital, the emergency contact may transport, or an ambulance will be called at the expense of the participant. In very severe circumstances, 911 will be called and the emergency contact will be notified after the call. If no one is able to be reached, or time is critical, an ambulance will be called and the participant will be taken to the hospital. A staff member will accompany the participant to the hospital and we will continue trying to reach the emergency contact.

2024 pool policies

The St. Marys Community Pool has the authority to implement the following policies:

The pool will close if the outside temperature is 70 degrees or below. If the temperature is above 70 for the second shift, we will open.

At the first sound of thunder or sight of lightening, swimming will cease. The pool will then open for swimming 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder or sight of lightening. If the forecast show storms to continue, the pool will close for the remainder of the shift.

If the main drain is not visible from the nearest lifeguard chair due to heavy rainfall, patrons will not be permitted into the pool. If the forecast shows that the rain will continue at the same intensity, the pool will close for the remainder of the shift.

If the forecast predicts persistent storms, we have the right to close the pool for the first and/or second shifts. This decision will be made 2 hours before the pool is scheduled to open.

The pool may close if there are maintenance issues related to the pool, and if it is having effects on the patrons. If the pool closes due to a maintenance issue, refunds will be given to non-members in the form of a “free pass”.

If there are less than 10 patrons within the first hour of opening for a particular shift, part of the pool will be closed for the remainder of that shift.

If there are less than 10 patrons by 3:00PM, part of the pool will remain closed for the entire second shift.

There will be no refunds for non-members due to weather closures.

Members without membership fobs will need to pay the daily admission entrance rate. ALL MEMBERS MUST BRING THEIR FOBS TO RECEIVE ENTRY INTO THE POOL. NO EXCEPTIONS.

On rainy days where there is only light rain and no thunder/lightening, campers may still spend time outdoors. Please send them with a rain jacket. In the event of storms, they will be relocated to the Memorial Park Clubhouse or Benzinger Park Building (depending on which camp they are registered for).

Behavior at Camp

The City of St. Marys Parks & Recreation Department is committed to providing positive, safe, and fun experiences for everyone.

All camp participants must:

1. Stay with their assigned group/leader

Not harm or endanger themselves, other participants, or staff

2. Respect themselves, campers, leaders, and program rules

3. Use respectful and appropriate language towards staff and other campers

5.

4. Respect supplies, equipment, facilities, parks and the environment

Safety is the primary concern for our staff and campers. Our staff will give as much positive reinforcement and recognition as possible to campers who are meeting expectations. In the event of inappropriate behavior, staff will give a quiet reminder, explain the behavior, and let the camper know what is expected and the consequences associated if the negative behavior continues. Time-outs and conferences with parents/guardians and Program Coordinators will be utilized as necessary.

Please note: in case of major rule violations, including aggressive or physical contact, verbal abuse, or destruction of property, participants may be suspended or dropped immediately from camp, regardless of the number of previous offenses. This will be approved by the Director of Parks & Recreation and a refund will not be issued.

Absences at Camp

The City of St. Marys Parks & Recreation Department does not require parents or guardians to inform us if their child is going to be absent from a program. However, if your child will be dropped off late, it is important that you enter the park building with your child in order to sign them in. Please do not drop off your child without signing in and meeting with a staff member.
