A 2020 Success worth Shouting About Elephant mortalities have reduced in South Luangwa by 66% from 2018 – 2020 (116 – 71 - 41). This is a major achievement in just a few years and DNPW should be commended for their excellent efforts over the past three years. However, we remain realistically cautious about the future and in order to maintain this we need to increase our efforts even more. This reduction is most likely the result of a more holistic approach including a combination of ground and aerial anti-poaching, increased support to investigations from partner organization Wildlife Crime Prevention, increased human wildlife conflict mitigation support and new community programs.
