New for Fall: Credit Hours and Financial Aid • Academy support classes will now appear in Owl Express. • Students can apply for Pell Grants, if they qualify. • Students are now considered full-time matriculating students (12 credit hours). • Academy support classes have new names and descriptions.


What does this mean? • Students can apply for Pell Grants when they previously could not. • Increases opportunities for paid internships on campus. • All courses taken, both audit and academy, will show up on your KSU transcript. • You will continue to take academy courses with academy staff members.

What will my schedule look like? • The new class names and courses are similar to the old curriculum with updated content and expanded meeting times. For example – Life skills is now Managing Personal Resources and ALCD is now Leadership Seminar. • Most students will not see any changes in the day/time of their audit course. • You can find your tentative schedule in Owl Express. • You will receive a final schedule from your advisor before school begins.

Internships – Sarah Cox • All internship courses will be pass/fail. • With the student status changes, this also opens opportunities for paid internships on campus. • Students can now use Handshake to apply for jobs.


Scholarships- Jasmine James Academy Incoming Students $35,000 Scholarship • Application Process started on Monday, June 8, 2020 • Two essays • A 250-word essay explaining how the scholarship would have an impact on your attendance. • A 150-word essay explaining how you have handled the current stress factors in society. • Applicants must have a signed application in order to be considered for the scholarship • All required documents must be emailed to academyadmissions@kennesaw.edu • New change: scholarship recipients will receive a portion of $35,000 scholarship; no need to reapply in the Spring. • Deadline is July 15, 2020


Homer Allen Grant $25,000 Scholarship

• Academy Incoming and Returning Students • Application process will start on Monday, July 13, 2020 • Only 10 students will be selected for this scholarship • All Applicants must submit a 250-word essay, “How will this scholarship help you achieve your goals?” • Please note applicants will be evaluated based on grammar, punctuation, whether the question was answered, and 250word minimum submission. • Essay must be typed, printed and submitted with the application, no exceptions.

• Returning Academy Student Applicants must have no behavior issues or class attendance issues and must have completed all their internship hours requirements on file for Spring 2020 • No exceptions • Applicants must submit a letter from their advisor stating they have no behavior or class attendance issues and have completed their internship hours requirements for Spring 2020.

• Application deadline is Monday, July 20, 2020

KSU Response to COVID-19 • KSU has established a rigorous protocol for cleaning classrooms, labs, food service areas, residence halls and office buildings based on CDC guidelines. • KSU has partnered with Wellstar Health System to provide Covid-19 testing for students on both the Marietta and Kennesaw campuses. • KSU students can call seven days a week if they have questions about symptoms related to Covid-19.


KSU Response to COVID-19 (cont.) • KSU will provide to all students, faculty and staff a KSU branded cloth mask. • The university will also have supplies of disposable masks that can be utilized as needed. • All faculty, staff, students, and visitors are required to wear an appropriate face covering while inside campus facilities/buildings where six feet social distancing may not always be possible. Face covering use will be in addition to and is not a substitute for social distancing.


KSU Academic Impact of COVID – 19 • We will have the same calendar for Fall 2020, with an August 17 start date for classes. After the Thanksgiving break, all classes will finish online. Final exams will be given online. • Students will remain on campus and the campus will remain open after the Thanksgiving Break until the completion of finals. • Audit class instruction may be impacted based on room capacity numbers for social distancing with face to face instruction.


How will this impact you? • Some face to face audit classes may move to an online or hybrid format. • More social-distancing on campus and few events with large groups of people. • Be prepared to follow the guidelines for face mask usage at internship sites. • Be ready for changing plans and directives at any time. • Face masks will be required in many areas on campus. • The campus environment will be different this fall.


Academy Response to COVID -19 • Sign-up is now mandatory to use the computer lab. No more than 3 students at a time will be allowed in and there will be a time limit of one hour. • You will have to make an appointment to see any staff member. You can no longer drop-in or walk down the hall unannounced. • All common areas, the computer lab, academy offices, and conference room will be cleaned thoroughly. • You will have to complete 2 hours of study hall per week and your time/day will be assigned.


Health Concerns and Covid-19 • If you have any pre-existing health concerns that need to be brought to our attention, please schedule a virtual meeting with Sarah Wyatt our Social Worker before the beginning of the semester. • Student Health Services is available to address existing health conditions as well as Covid-19 testing. • If you are experiencing any stress or anxiety about returning to campus, please talk to someone about those concerns.


Virtual Orientation • Orientation will be virtual this year to accommodate social distancing. • Several KSU Support Groups will attend to discuss service changes in response to COVID-19. (Housing, Dining, Public Safety, etc.) • We ask all students and parents to attend the virtual sessions in order to address any concerns you might have. • The Academy introduction session will highlight the program's social events, academic enrichment, and career/internship opportunities. • A calendar invite with a link will be emailed along with an agenda of session dates/times.
