To support this noble undertaking, a Teachers’ Month Campaign (TMC) was conceived in July 2008 to contribute to the growth and development of the teaching profession in the country, as well as to publicly express appreciation to mentors. It was spearheaded by the Metrobank Foundation, De La Salle Philippines, Philippine Business for Education and Campaigns Social Response with the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education, and the support of key business institutions. Continued until this year with the same theme “My Teacher, My Hero,” the TMC is now being supported by more heads of government, educational institutions, private companies and major organizations. Activities have been lined up for the TMC this year. The nationwide campaign will start in September and will culminate on October 5, 2011 at the PhilSports Arena, Pasig City with about 10,000 participants comprised of mostly teachers, students and other stakeholders. In this regard, on behalf of the members of the Council of Leaders and the Steering Committee of the 2011 Teachers’ Month Campaign, we would like to invite you to participate in this worthy cause by advocating the campaign to the public and engaging volunteer and causeoriented netizens through your website. With your help, we will be able to highlight our teachers’ far-reaching influence in our society being the front-liners of instruction and that no other personality can have an influence more profound than a teacher. We would like to encourage everyone to acknowledge the significant role of teachers in our lives by saying thank you or any other expression of gratitude during the whole campaign period. A dedicated facebook page has been setup (http://www.facebook.com/depedtmc) for the Teachers’ Month Campaign and World Teachers’ Day.
