Selection

Using various tools, but most notably the lasso tool, the polygonal lasso tool, and quick selection I was able to choose certain objects and areas of the image. From there I was able to create masks through adjustment layers and change certain aspects about the items I selected. Individually, I changed some items’ hue/saturation, inverted some items, and increased exposure. At the end I added a canvas border that was about 100 pixels larger than the rest of the image.

Select and Mask

After opening up the RAW file in Photoshop, the first step was to use the quick selection tool to select as much of the hair as possible. I recall having to use the deselect command since the quick selection tool can be a little too broad with its selections. After making the selection, I opened up a new adjustment layer to begin using the select and mask feature and the refine edge brush tool. I decided to make the hair pink by using the colorize option and turning up the saturation of the color so that it was very vibrant and bright. After this, I copied the adjustment layer and merged it with the background layer to select the rest of the body from the background. Then, proceed to create a gradient layer and place it behind the merged layer so that the gradient would be behind all of the selections.

Vector Masking

The first step was to begin using the pen tool to place and connect anchor points all around the outside of the car. After outlining the outside perimeter of the car it was time to do the same to the smaller more obvious holes in the image like the sections around the top of the car and the doors. I was then instructed since the back windshield was tricky to use the lasso tool and select the back windshield. After selecting the windshield, I used the feathering option to make the selection less harsh and then used the brush tool with a low opacity and swapped the foreground and background colors to subtly remove the background from behind the car but not make it so transparent as to show that there was still glass. I then found an image of a fantasy background, placed the car in an appropriate position on the background, and tried my best to use colors and filters to make the car appear as though it was actually on the planet. After that, I added a bit of drop shadow and played around with some of the settings to make it look more realistic.

Sculpture For this assignment we had to select a sculpture that the Professor provided us, and use the previous skills we learned like masking ansd selection to place textures we find online on top of different parts of the sculpture. The extra skill I tried to apply to my sculpture was making the textures blend in and look more natural. I achived this by using the multiply blending mode which kept a lot of the details like brightness and shadows and essnetially added the texture on top of those features. I think this really made the project come to life.

Brick Wall and Graffiti The first step of the assignment was to select one of the many brick walls that the Professor provided us. I really liked the look and colors of the one to the left. When it came to the actual editing that we had to do on the image, we were assigned to use the stamp tool to paint iver the windows with other parts of the wall.

The image to the right was my partial progress of the assignment. I had managed to paint over the majority of the windows and could have left it there, but I wanted to go back into the half circles at the top and see what I could do to completely remove the windows. I decided to use the bricks from the bottom of the image that were below the windows.

Finally, we had to add some graffiti by following an instruction video. Certain features and shorcuts were not working for me so I could not find a way to properly blend the graffiti into the wall, but I think the tag came out pretty cool nonetheless. Before I did that I made a couple small edits using the spong, dodge, and burn tool to make the wall look more realistic

Pen Tool Practice

The first part of this assignment was to trace the letters above using the pen tool and how to use its more intricate features. After making the new object we learned about extend and bevel which allows us to turn our 2D objects into 3D ones. After that our assignment was to take one of our classmates’ hand drawn logos for a small company and recreate it in illustrator. We were instructed to communicate with them as if creating a logo for the comapny owner in the professional world. I wanted to keep the text as they had written it instead of finding a font, so I traced it using the pen tool. I took some liberties on the object part of the logo though and talked to the creator about making it into perfect shapes instead of natural looking ones. They agreed, so I used the ellipitcal tool and pen tool to make the clean shapes.

The 88 Exercise

For this assignment we were instructed to strictly follow the instructions to a video. By using multiple perfect circles and the shape builder tool we were able to create perfect a perfect 8 with cool overlapping details. From there we were instructed to add colors as we saw fit. I used a radial gradient from black to a light purple for the inside and gave it a black outline. I duplicated the initial 8 to create the second one and gave it a lighter peach outline and used that same color in a gradient to go into the magenta color in the center.

restaurant Ad Campaign For this assignment we were supposed to create a simple logo for a small restaurant trying to do an advertisement campaign. Once the log was created we were instructed to create multiple types of advertisements that one would find in their daily life. The ones I chose to showcase were my Instagram post and story as well as my magazine ad. I chose to do a mexican restaurant since that’s my favorite type of food. I chose fonts and color to match that aesthetic. I’m showcasing these pieces because I think that they are the most dynamic and interesting of all of the ones I created. The magazine advertisement also includes a sneakpeak to a later project.

Trifold project

For this assignment, our goal was to create a trifold brochure for a small business. I chose to make one for a small business that actually exists in South Florida. I recreated their logo into a vector using illustrator and all of the pages and the layout were made in InDesign. The images I found on their website I thought would be great for the brochure as well. I put them into photoshop to add filters so they would match the theme of the brochure which was matching the logo. This mockup showcases the external pages of the trifold, but the inside details many of the different services they provide at their shop. I’m really happy with how this assignment came out

Movie Poster project SONY ANIMATIONS PICTURES PRESENTS:

ACROSS ACROSS THE THE SPIDER-VERSE SPIDER-VERSE

ONLY IN THEATERS

Our goal for this project was to use all of the applications to create a custom poster for one of our favorite movies. I chose the movie Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse. The background image is a backdrop from the movie and the character, Miles, is from another poster. I edited the colors using filters in Photoshop to make it seem like he is standing in that city rather than being in a compltely different lighting. The symbols along the side, I found online and are also from other characters in the movie that are directly involved with the main character Miles. I tried to recreate the logo for the movie in illustrator to the best of my ability. There are certain elements missing, but I think it still came out pretty good.

Indesign

Movie Poster project

This was our final assignment in the class. We were to make a 12 page magazine with any theme we wanted. I chose to do mine on music for no particular reason other than to just change things up. We needed to make all of the elements that would into a magazine like this. The logo, cover page, table of contents, headliner articles, their subsequent pages, and advertisements. The mockup above showcases my cover pages, and the images to the right showcase my main article pages. The mockup seemed to distort my text columns, as they are not that crooked in the actual design. In any case, I’m ver satisfied with the work I did on this project and had a lot of fun with being as creative as I could.
