The orangerie build

All our orangeries are constructed using our unique ground wall timber system providing a stronger fixing point.

Our builders will excavate the site and lay a base in accordance with Scottish Building Regulations, matching the foundations of your home. Our base walls are fully insulated and traditionally built with two skins of brick and an insulated cavity. They will include a damp proof course and damp proof membrane, both designed to prevent moisture ingress. Externally, CR Smith will source brick, stone or render to match your home as closely as possible.

Next, your Lorimer windows and doors are installed and your new fully insulated floor is laid.

A Lorimer orangerie roof is an extruded aluminium clad design with PVCu on the inside to match the windows. Its engineered construction means the roof is fully built and tested prior to installation which carries British Board of Agrément accreditation. The aluminium design means it will remain colour-fast and gives it additional rigidity and strength, unlike PVCu roofs.

Each roof has a unique wind and snow loading specification, computer calculated prior to manufacture.

Steps and drainage are then finally added. When complete, your new orangerie will look like an integral part of your home.

Climate control

Getting the atmosphere just right

Imagine being able to heat or cool the air - all at the touch of a button. With our climate control system, you can.

Lorimer orangeries are designed with opening windows all the way round and doors to allow a free flow of air on the hottest days. Combined with our climate control system, we believe it is the best way to regulate the temperature in your orangerie.

Whether you want to feel cosy on a winter’s night or read a book under summer skies, you can get the most out of your new living space.

The system is ‘A+++’ energy rated which means that it’s cheaper to run than an electric heater or radiator.

Additionally, the system can de-ionise and purify the air, and it comes in a choice of colours to suit your interior decoration, including white, black and silver.

Thermostat Controlled

Every Lorimer orangerie is fitted with a Smartglass roof. This modern alternative to clear glass can not only keep itself cleaner for longer, it is far quieter than polycarbonate glazing sheets, reflects unwanted heat and glare from the sun in summer, but also helps retain warmth during the winter months.

Reduces heat loss

Using a low emissivity coating, argon gas filled cavity and warm edge technology, a typical conservatory roof glazed with Smartglass ® is able to retain warmth in the winter months twice as well as standard glazing.

Heat reflection

The solar control coating and subtle tint in Smartglass® reflects up to 60%* of the sun’s radiant heat during the summer months, dramatically reducing the unwanted build-up of heat that occurs with other glass and polycarbonate roofs.

Glare reduction

Smartglass* ® does much more to regulate the temperature in a conservatory than standard glass. It is designed to dramatically reduce the glare of the sun, reflecting nearly 60%* of visible light and filtering out harmful UV rays. The result is a light and airy room, which can be further enhanced in tone by one of the four Smartglass® subtle tints.

Stays cleaner for longer

Smartglass* ® provides low-maintenance technology with its ground-breaking properties. It has a dual action ‘photo-catalytic’ coating on the outer face, which harnesses the ultraviolet energy in daylight to break down organic matter and then allows it to stay cleaner for longer.

Soundproofing

Made from two panes of 4mm toughened glass, the rigid unit construction offers twice the soundproofing of standard roof polycarbonate.

‘Designed for you’

With Lorimer you are furnishing the room as well as the window. Personalise each window to suit the room’s décor, or choose something completely different to give you inspiration for a whole new look.

Timber finishes

Each Lorimer orangerie is fitted with engineered timber sills with solid bullnose edges and skirtings in your choice of natural ash, American cherry or royal oak. As standard they’re hand finished in varnish or wax. Alternatively, we can offer an engineered wood, finished in brilliant white if this would suit your home better.

Colours

In addition to our white finish, Lorimer orangeries can also be foiled in rosewood, anthracite grey and American light oak woodgrains. The window or door frames can have a matching woodgrain finish on the inside* or, if you want to make the most of the light in your room, you can choose white instead. The contoured shape of our Lorimer window, combined with the woodgrain Renolit foil, give it colour and texture, and also means that our woodgrain finishes look and feel like real wood.

*Anthracite grey only available with white internal colour

Window handles

Our range of handles complements the window perfectly in terms of colour and form, with a choice of black, bright chrome, white, graphite and bright gold.
