The ultimate decisions for my family will not rely on what another man of God says, what a church of God says, or the institution of the church itself says. If their message is not in line with what I feel God has told me to do, I will stand fast on His Word and Will for my family’s lives. Being a business professional, how do you balance career vs. family time? First, I thank God for my career as a successful software engineer. I have had the opportunity to work on multi million dollar efforts and do very challenging work. However, I have never let my work ultimately interfere with time for my family. While I have had to work days straight to finish projects my family has never been neglected. One of my previous mentors taught me that work-life balance is like juggling. Some of the balls are glass and some of the balls are rubber. If you happen to miss a pass and drop one of these balls try to ensure that it is a rubber one. In other words, these aspects of your life will bounce back. For me, my career is a rubber ball. I have had to miss out on some great opportunities, but there have always been other great opportunities down the road. Some of my glass balls are my relationship with God, family, and health. I have been doing my best to keep these balls in limbo by not letting them hit the ground.

What excites you most about being a father? The aspect that excites me the most about fatherhood is spending quality time with my sons. Supporting my boys in their sporting events, going to PTA meetings, and being a part of their growth and development is very exciting for me.

If you could imprint just one of Christ's teachings in your children's hearts, what would it be and why? That is easy, Proverbs 22:6. My children need to understand their upbringing. They will have been blessed and highly favored by being in a home where both parents exist, truly love each other, and are Christians. However, my children may fall away from their foundation, but as children of God they have an opportunity to return. I do not want them to be perfect and try to be Christ. I want them to strive for righteousness by trying to be “like” Christ. What affect has your upbringing had on your parenting techniques? My parents had a significant impact on my parenting techniques. I was actually raised by my grandparents and I literally call them mom and dad. They did not have to, but they took me in, while I was only 3 days old. They have shown me unconditional love in spite of the many mistakes that I made before I left home for college and thereafter. They kept me active in various youth ministries of the church and did not allow to me hang out like the other kids did. They kept me active in sports and culture and made sure that I maintained good grades. I am going to use their value system and add my own flavor of cultural exposure and educational excellence which includes at-home encouragement of reading, writing, and speaking skills. As a matter of fact, my two year old already knows a dozen or more sign languages with the associated words!
