New Beginnings, new Journeys Well it has certainly been a new beginning for us in the Burt household with the birth of our 2nd precious baby boy Felix Leon Rydal Burt, born on 26th February 2014. I achieved my VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean), managed to hypnobirth in hospital, tackled obstetric cholestasis and lost a lot of blood, but I did it! And it was certainly a mind blowing experience! The weeks since have been a massive blur and I have been on the biggest ride of my life. This little man not only brought me a healing birth but a few healing lessons to learn too. Let’s just say our family plans have massively changed and I think myself, and my family are going to come out much stronger for it. I have decided after this edition of Parent

The Daffodils The daffodils Amongst the rills Of water make A scene to take A nature lover’s breath away. My next challenge is to get the books into the hands of the children whose parents aren’t passionate about reading. I don’t need to convince the children, I haven’t seen one sad face walk past my stalls when they are presented with bright books shouting at them to be read. I must therefore find ways to get into schools, I must climb a mountain. I hope I can feed back positively how that has gone soon.

Our Story Alison Norris, 32, lives with her husband, David, 32, their son Zachary 22 months & Peggy the Cat in Walthamstow, East London. Alison runs Little Biscuit from home where she makes upcycled baby clothes.

Lifestyle and philosophy Living in London we are surrounded by so many different types of people to be inspired by, that I feel I am still finding my way as to what our own lifestyle and philosophy is. Life is a constant work in progress. However, these are the things that I do know are important to us as we grow: -

Time as a family is the most important

thing to protect -

We always feel better when we have

spent time outdoors -

With five weeks to go until my due date, David went to Ukraine to watch England play in the UEFA European Championships. He arrived home at 2.30 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, at 2.35 a.m. my waters broke and I went in to labour. A few hours later our son came in to the world, and unfortunately had to be taken to intensive care. What

I struggled to bond with him, found it difficult to breastfeed, and felt like the worst mother that there had ever been. Not only had my body failed to keep him safe until he was developed enough to face the world, I now didn’t really want him to come near me as that would mean another dose of pain. Our Story Andrea Laughery, 29, Justin Laughery, 28 and their son Ben, 1, live in Washington State, US. They share their family story about enjoying parenting and the outdoors.

lifestyle and philosophy My husband and I are committed to making our marriage, and therefore our family, the focus and priority of our lifestyle. We love exploring and playing outside together. The time we spend together is intentional. We believe in simple, in honest, and in healthy. Being outside in nature and living in the great outdoors is one of our passions. I am a fifth grade teacher turned stay-athome mom. I worked hard for my Masters degree and some days I long for my days in the classroom, but I know an education is never wasted.

How we make it work The first year I was a SAHM my husband

engineer and while we ideally would love to have him home with us every day, we are currently thankful for his career and that he can provide for his family, even if we aren’t with him as much as we would like. Justin is so committed to being a present and loving husband and father, that all the time we do spend together is filled with adventures, hugs, and laughter. Long term, we have big dreams of traveling the world as a family and sailing around the San Juan islands, but we can’t yet make that a reality.

Inspiration I’m not sure there are adequate words to describe how important I feel it is for us to be with our children. The impact that parents have on their children’s lives are unsurmountable.

Justin was also finishing school, but we had planned ahead and saved for that year. He now works very close to home as an

education options Since I am a public school teacher, I do believe and value the public education system. However, now that I am a parent, sending my son away for hours every day to be with someone else doesn’t seem as appealing as it once did. Homeschool could be a potential option for us as well.

Favourite family activity We have lush forests, wild coasts, snowcapped mountains, and turbulent rivers here in the Pacific North West. The Olympic National Forest is our backyard playground. We love putting our son in the hiking pack and going on day climbs, canoeing, beach combing, and exploring the great outdoors together. On a more routine day, we love to snuggle in bed and read books together.

Dotty Dove’s New Beginnings

It’s sometimes scary to try new things; been otherwise destined for landfill. similarly it’s from these new experiences that we can sometimes learn the most.
