Questions & Answers 1. H ow did you become a photographer?
I started out way back when developing 35mm film in a newsagents for my first Saturday job. This grounded my understanding of photography and I got amazing staff rates on my film development and a free film every time, so I just kept clicking! I went to uni and did a Geography degree as I was fascinated by the connections of people and place and our interactions on this beautiful planet. This fascination underpins my love of photography and it is a joy to capture special moment. My journey into wedding photography started with assisting and then I shot my own weddings. 2. Describe your photography style My style is very soft, natural images that are captured in a relaxed and unobtrusive way. I am intrigued by beauty in the tiniest of details or heartbeat of a moment as well as the moments that tell a bigger story. I have a creative eye and will always shoot a mix of shots with a quirky twist. In 2013, I’ll be shooting some film and instant images with some new very quirky cameras that I’ve added to the collection! 3. Who influences your style? I am influenced by so many things, each couple and their wedding ideas, their connection and telling this story is at the heart of it. My love of nature is a big influence too. I enjoy looking at what other folk are doing in the industry and it is a really exciting time in wedding photography with such diversity allowing couples to find someone who shoots in a way they love. There are two photographers who have work that has mesmorised me recently. Kirsty Mitchell’s award winning Wonderland and Anna Jones from Ingenue Boudoir are some of my current photography crushes! 4. What’s you favourite part of being a photographer? Every part of the job is an enjoyable one, I think my favourite part is finding a couple’s wedding edit and sharing it with them. I get full of excitement knowing that they will be reliving their big day as they click through the images. 5. Best kept secret for Brides and Grooms Remember to enjoy the time you have together! This might sound a little obvious but the day does go by so quickly and I found we spent more time chatting to guests than each other. Time together can be grabbed during your photographs, see that as your time, enjoy each other and I’ll step back and capture your brief moments together.

Oooh, good question. I haven’t got anyone on a secret hit list anywhere! I just love working with people and so photographing the moments of a day where a couple and their love is celebrated with everyone they hold dear is more than enough for me.
Aaaah, lists – which one?! Tee hee! I have been replying to some of my 2013 brides about their plans, had some great emails today! Today has been an admin day and I am left with an invoice for a new couple and their welcome email, planning a few sessions for my photography students that I am teaching at Christ Church and organising a rather fabulous styled shoot, which means hitting pinterest, sigh!
7. Tell us about your studio or work space at home My office is my desk, iMac and a lot of storage, I like things organised. Confession time. I am a list maker, a stationery hoarder and Paperchase do well out of me! I like writing with a fountain pen, it’s a floral one from Cath Kidston. I always have some fresh flowers on my desk, daffs are my current favourite. When I am working on a wedding you can guarantee that spotify is playing out some tunes and I’ll be drinking copious amounts of Yorkshire Tea!
9. What do you when not taking photos? I’m always doing something creative, be it sewing or making jewellery or playing sax & piano. I enjoy cycling around the coast, doing pilates or going for a swim. Most of all I love a snuggle with Mark and my cat Misu and catching up with family & friends.
