HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR

This year Create hosted several international conferences in both Aalborg and Copenhagen. In May, the Multisensory Experience Lab in Copenhagen hosted the FUTURE SOUND FORUM. In June and July, Architecture and Design i Aalborg hosted the EMPHERAL PERFORMANCE building workshop with use of sustainable materials and ICSA2022 CONFERENCE on Structures and Architecture. In August, Lighting Design Lab in Copenhagen hosted LIGHT SYMPOSIUM 2022.

MADS GRÆSBØLL CHRISTENSEN, Professor and Head of Audio Lab, defended his doctoral thesis “Model-based Analysis and Processing of Speech and Audio Signals”. His thesis gathers more than 15 years of research within the field of audio processesing and models. The models can be used to diagnose diseases based on the voice, to improve hearing aids, and to remove background noise and other disturbances from sound.

Professor NICOLA MORELLI was elected to sit on the Cumulus Executive Board. Cumulus is the leading global association of art and design, education, and research. Nicola Morelli has researched in and taught service systems design for 20 years at Aalborg University and is one of the funders of the Master in Service Systems Design at Aalborg University.

We also welcomed LONE PERCY SCHMIDT from Rigshospitalet as new Honorary Professor. She is PhD in audiology and clinical researcher and she has worked with and researched in treatment of people with hearing loss for 25 years. She believes that the current available technologies and approaches needs a modernisation. She will strengthen our research in helping children with hearing loss and their parents by using new technologies and educational approaches. So far, the collaboration has, among other things, resulted in a virtual reality simulation of a school environment to train children using hearing technology.

Teachers of the year 2021 was awarded to:

• Associate Professor MICHAEL LAURING from Architecture and Technology.

• Research assistant (now PhD) MILO MARSFELDT SKOVFOGED from Media Technology.
