Building on the traditional Torch Relay format, the London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay will begin in London on Friday 24 August with the lighting of England’s flame. The United Kingdom’s other three capital cities – Greater Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh – will then light a flame on each of the following days, at special Flame Lighting events. Each nation will also host events celebrating the Flame Lightings, one of which will be happening in Horsham on 25 August. A local Paralympian, chosen to act as a Flame Ambassador, will collect the flame on the 24 August and bring it back to the town. On 25 August Horsham District Council will be hosting a welcome ceremony for the flame at Horsham Park (between 10.30am and 2pm). As well as the welcoming ceremony there will be a host of other inclusive activities plus entertainment from local disabled acts including a performance from Crawley learning disabled band, The Coasters. This promises to be a fun day for the family to celebrate the Paralympic Games in London. On Tuesday 28 August, the Paralympic Flame will be carried by Torchbearers, running in teams of five, in a 24 hour overnight relay from Stoke Mandeville to the Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
