About theArtists

Brian Dooley (’17)

Brian Dooley is a guitarist and bagpiper residing in Rochester, NY. He is a recent graduate of the Eastman School of Music where he earned his doctorate degree in Guitar Performance and Literature under the tutelage of Nicholas Goluses. Brian has been a frequent performer on electric guitar with Musica Nova and OSSIA New Music where he served as their Outreach Coordinator for their 2020-2021 calendar. He has worked with bringing music to the greater Rochester community as an Eastman Performing Musician Artist as part of the Friends of Strong program where he provides music for bedside performances in various hospital spaces. Brian will be performing with the Rochester Philharmonic as a featured soloist for a new work written for the Eastman bicentennial on May 28th and June 1st in Kodak Hall.

Brendon Grabowski (’16)

Brendon Grabowski is a classical guitarist based in Austin, Texas. He earned degrees at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music (BM 2016), University of Texas at Austin (MM 2018 & Artist Diploma 2024), and is a doctoral candidate at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music. He served as teaching assistant to Scott Tennant at USC, and to Adam Holzman at the Brevard 2024 Summer Classical Guitar Institute. Brendon has won and been a finalist in several competitions, including “Brouwer in Buffalo,” winning unanimously with Léo Brouwer on the panel. He has studied with many great teachers including Pepe Romero, Adam Holzman, Douglas Rubio, Scott Tennant, and Lucinda Carver. As an ambassador for Augustine Strings, Brendon has played on Regal Blue strings since 2020.

Andrew Marino (’12)

Andrew Marino has performed throughout the East coast and beyond as a soloist and in dynamic chamber groups. He often performs as part of the Marino Duo with his wife Jessica, and has enjoyed performing music for guitar and piano since the duo formed in 2020. Andrew is on the guitar faculty of Hoff-Barthelson Music

School in Scarsdale, NY where he runs a robust pre-college classical guitar program. In addition to his teaching duties at Hoff-Barthelson,Andrew is Chair of the New York State Music Teachers Association, District Four. He is an avid lecturer, having given notable lectures at the Guitar Foundation ofAmerica’s 2023 International Convention and Competition as well as the New York State Music TeachersAssociation’s 2022 State Conference. He has also recently been published in the March 2024 issue of Soundboard: The Journal of the Guitar Foundation of America. His article is titled “Six Cognitive Learning Strategies for Effective Classical Guitar Pedagogy.”Andrew holds both a Doctor of MusicalArts degree in Guitar Performance and a Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance/Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. He is also a certified Suzuki guitar teacher.

Lynn McGrath (’00)

Atouring soloist, chamber artist, and respected pedagogue, Lynn McGrath has appeared in North America, South America, Europe, and New Zealand as performer, lecturer, conductor, and adjudicator for numerous international and national festivals, including the Nikšić Festival (Montenegro), Silesian Guitar Autumn Festival (Poland), the Guitar on the Mediterranean Festival (Italy), and the Guitar Foundation ofAmerica Convention (US). She has also presented at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, the University of Veracruz, and Mannes College. Lynn is a member of the acclaimed Tantalus Guitar Quartet, and former member of the trio Presti. After receiving degrees in Spanish Language and Literature as well as Education, she completed a music degree at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam (where she later taught as a full-time instructor) and earned a MM and DMAfrom the University of Southern California, studying with William Kanengiser, Pepe Romero, and James Smith. She is currently Senior Guitar Instructor at the Eastman Community Music School in Rochester, NY where she works with a thriving studio of students that include young children, aspiring pre-collegiate guitarists, and adults.

Tom Torrisi (’09)

Tom Torrisi is a classical guitarist, composer, and arranger currently working and residing in Buffalo, NY. Active as both soloist and chamber musician, Tom has

performed throughout the United States and the UK. He has received top honors in numerous competitions including theAPSU Concerto Competition, the Memphis University International Guitar Competition, and the Southern Guitar Festival Competition. Tom is a passionate advocate for new music, and has premiered many works. He has performed at 21st Century Guitar Festival, Black House Collective, June in Buffalo, Mostly Modern Festival, New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, and zFestival.As a composer Tom draws on his diverse and eclectic performance background and one can hear traces of influences as wide-ranging as French impressionism, Balinese gamelan,American minimalism, and heavy metal. In addition to the guitar, Tom is a passionate explorer of non-Western musical styles and currently teaches and performs with NusantaraArts' Balinese gamelan ensemble, and has previously performed with Gamelan Sanjiwani and Gamelan Lila Muni in Rochester, NY. He holds a doctorate degree from the Eastman School of Music and a master’s degree fromAustin Peay State University
