NeoFluxus Event 8BA1 – Brodie Ainsworth
Fluxus was a music and art movement in the 1960s and 70s focused on performance art intended to demonstrate that music is more than just melody and harmony. Instead, Fluxus proposes that music is everything, and everything can be music. Fluxus events were often humorous, featured improvisation and chance, and often sought to make the audience think about something in a way they had never thought of before.
This composition is a NeoFluxus event, and the instructions for the performer are as follows:
If performing for an audience in a concert setting, encourage the audience to pretend/act as though they are in a comedy club or at a bar’s amateur hour.
Listen to Artikulations by Gyorgi Ligeti over a stereo system. Every time you hear a noise you like, say “I’ll have what he’s having.” Every time you hear a noise you dislike, say “Heh, am I right?” If you have no opinion on the noises you hear, tug on your collar nervously.
If the performer can have a microphone to speak into, they should have one. If this is performed on a stage, the speakers should be set up in such a way that there is a clear difference between left and right.
