The Mary Beth Bowler Award The Mary Beth Bowler Award was instituted in 1999 to annually honor an outstanding senior player at King's based on their contributions to the program during their career with the Lady Monarchs. The award is named in honor of Mary Beth Bowler-Chambers, the former King's standout who dominated the Middle Atlantic Conference from 1980-1983 and is regarded as King's finest player ever. Bowler-Chambers, who played with her twin sister Teresa Bowler, is the Lady Monarchs' all-time leading scorer with 2,024 points. In 1981-82, she led NCAA Division III in scoring with a 25.9 points per-game average and also holds King's record for points scored in a single-game with 44  against Lycoming on February 25, 1980.  In all, she owns 17 Lady Monarch records. Bowler-Chambers was also King's first all-American player, earning the honor twice in 1980-81 and 1981-82.  She was a four-time MAC All-Star and was twice named the MAC's most valuable player. Last seasons recipient Samantha Simcox was the first honoree since Kaitlyn Fiorino in 2009. The 2013 recipient of the Mary Beth Bowler Award is Katlin Michaels. Michaels played only eight games in her freshman season before suffinring a knee injury. She was a three year starter at the point guard position and triggered the Lady Monarch offense. She had her finest season as a senior leading the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game while also leading the nation in assists setting a King's record with 197 helpers. She also puled down 6.4 boards per contest and helped King's to the Freedom Conference title game.Michaels finished her career holding the records for assists in a season (197), single-season assists per game (7.3), assists in a game (15), career free throw attempts (558), free throws made in a game (14) and free throws attempted in a game (26).She was also ranks 17th on the Lady Monarchs all-time scoring list with 1,041 points.
