This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the LowRider rod series. The first low profile guide system transformed high performance bass fishing. More guides, closer to blank, increased casting performance and sensitivity. Introduced in 1995, LowRider prototypes were used to win the Bass Master Classic that year. This year we build on our tradition of innovation. LowRiders receive a major update. Dubbed the LowRider 20, these rods have new weight saving, ergonomic grips, a new even lighter guide system, and a crisp new look.

Falcon LowRider-first released in 1995 and changed fishing with the LowRider guide system. LowRider 20 takes the next step in proven performance.

Bassmaster Elite Professional, Cliff Crochet | Pierre Part, LA The year was 1995. Falcon introduced the “LowRider” series of rods and marked a major change in the design of fishing rods. Founder John Beckwith recalls, “I had heard that competitive long-distance casters were using little, tiny, single-foot guides instead of the big double-footed guides that were the industry standard at that time. This made sense to me. The smaller guides tamed the line coming off the reel and really reduced line slap and friction all the way up the length of the rod. So, longer casts.” Falcon Rods pioneered a new fishing rod design quite different from what other companies had been doing year after year. This new rod looked different. It had more guides than other rods of the same length. Also, the guides had only one foot attached to the blank, not two, and they were only about half the size of guides on other rods. These guides were much closer to the blank then their predecessors. This was the first Falcon “LowRider” rod.

But Beckwith recognized another big advantage. Because the fishing line would ride closer to the blanks the angler would have more “feel.” The angler would detect more fish strikes, feel the lure swimming through the water column, feel it bumping against structure, touching the bottom, or moving through vegetation. They were noticeably lighter, too. Tournament anglers gained a competitive edge. As the word spread, Falcon introduced new, task-specific models and later introduced LowRider Salts so saltwater anglers also could have more casting distance and sensitivity. The new “LowRider 20” celebrates the 20 year anniversary of the first LowRider with new features and look.

The Cara T7s represent a major step forward, outfitted with streamlined, anti-grooving Fuji Alconite Concept guides. Sleeker, lighter, corrosion-resistant S-4 stainless steel frames hold rings made with a new generation of Alconite ceramic that is lighter and 80 percent stronger than aluminum oxide. A diamond polishing process makes the guide inserts smoother, increasing casting distance and preventing grooving with small-diameter, low-stretch braided line. Falcon applies a thicker flex coat to protect the guide wraps from damaging rays from the sun. The Cara T7 series supersede previous Cara casting, Cara spinning and Cara Reaction models, but the heart of the new series remains Falcon’s American-made Cara T7 Graphite blank, a proprietary weave of high modulus graphite praised for its balance of sensitivity and durability.
