Flower Dies
Create an array of stunning cards featuring delicate blooms with our free gift this month! Best Wishes
Prepare a card blank with decorative paper. Die-cut a blue circle and glue to a doily. Stamp a sentiment onto yellow and trim into a banner, then mount to the front. Die-cut three lots of blooms from each die and fix to the doily. Decorate with gems.

Cover a square blank with embossed pink card. Stick black flowers and leaves onto a black and white layered circle. Adhere to the blank, then decorate with pink pearls and ribbon.

Matt yellow onto a landscape blank, then add a strip of patterned paper across the middle. Die-cut a medium yellow flower, a small pink bloom and two leaves. Cut a 5.5cm circle of patterned paper in half, then add on elements to create a bird on a banner. Stick to the blank, then add gems.

1 29cm, and fold widthways. Cut white card, 10.5cm x
Position so the fold line is at the top and glue blue chevron paper, 10cm x 14cm, onto the front. Mount a green polka dot paper, 4cm x 8.5cm, onto a strip of white card, 4.5cm x 9cm. Attach blue ribbon across this panel and secure the ends at the back. Affix this strip to the bottom of the main card, leaving a small border around the edge. Die-cut white card using the second-largest Double Stitched Rectangle die, measuring, 7cm x 10cm. Cut beige paper using the end of the same die and trim one side into a hill shape. Use the Sunny Skies die to cut a stitched sun from yellow card. Glue the hill and sun onto the stitched white panel and trim the border. Stamp the penguin, tree, flower and cocktail onto white card. Tint each image using Copic markers and cut out with the co-ordinating die. Arrange on the stitched panel and affix with foam pads, before attaching the panel to the main card. Tie a blue bow, attach a rhinestone to the centre and glue onto the left side of the ribbon border. Stamp Cheers onto blue, attach to main card with foam pads and add a rhinestone to each side to finish. CB

CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF STORYTELLING AND LOVEABLE CHARACTERS Beatrix Potter has captured the hearts of children and adults over generations with her stories of Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck and many more animal friends. July 2016 marks 150 years since her birth and there are so many ways for you to be involved!
three manuscripts and an unfinished sketch from the story. A private collector came forward with another illustration that went on display at the museum that shows Kitty in the background and the infamous Peter Rabbit at the centre of the scene.
What's it about, is it different to Potter's previous works?
It's essentially about a cat that leads a double life and goes out hunting in the moonlight, only to become caught in a trap. The lesson learned is enough to cure her of her poaching!
A new story...
Why wasn't it published during her lifetime?
Did you have to edit the story at all?
After piecing the three separate manuscripts together, there really wasn't much to do. Beatrix had shaped and refined the tale each time she had returned to it, and knew exactly what she wanted to write about Kitty, but had said to her editor it might need a little work. We didn't want to change anything significant, as it's such an engaging story.
What's your favourite Beatrix Potter story?
It has to be the tale of Peter Rabbit! It's a classic and still holds so much of its charm today.
Letters written by Beatrix to her publisher, Warne, suggest that Over 100 years ago, Beatrix she intended to finish the tale but ‘interruptions began’. I think her Potter penned a story new married life and the war, that never made it to publication. Now, thanks plus her sheep farming simply got in the way!
to resourceful editor Jo Hanks at Penguin Random House, the story is ready to be shared with Potter fans world-wide. We had a chat with Jo to find out more....
How was the new story discovered?
I was conducting research for Emma Thompson's The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit when I came across a letter that Beatrix Potter had sent her publisher in 1914. It mentioned the story of “a well-behaved prime black Kitty cat, who leads rather a double life”, and referred to an unedited manuscript of the tale. The V&A archive revealed
How did Quentin Blake become involved?
We sent the story to him, as we knew he just had to be involved. He has a very dry wit, which is in keeping with the style of Beatrix Potter's stories. His illustrations really help tell a story and have an energetic and rebellious nature to them – perfect for Kitty!
Do any of the other classic characters make an appearance? They do! Mischievous Peter Rabbit, Mr. Tod, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Ribby and Tabitha Twitchit all make cameo appearances.
Kitty-in-Boots will be published in September by Frederick Warne & Co at Penguin Random House Children’s, with an audio version read by Dame Helen Mirren

✎ Beatrix had two special pet rabbits: Benjamin Bouncer, who enjoyed buttered toast and joined the Potter family on holiday in Scotland where he went for walks on a lead and Peter Piper, who had a talent for performing tricks!
✎ Beatrix not only produced beautiful watercolours but also became an adept scientific illustrator. By 1896, she had developed her own theory of how fungi spores reproduced. ✎ She designed and created the first Peter Rabbit doll herself in 1903, registering it immediately at the patent office, making Peter Rabbit the world’s oldest licensed literary character. ✎ During her lifetime, Beatrix bought fifteen farms and took a very active part in caring for them. She won a number of prizes for her sheep at local shows, and became the first elected female President of the Herdwick Sheep Breeders’ Association in 1943. ✎ In accordance with her wishes, Hill Top Farm was kept exactly as it had been when she lived in it, and receives thousands of visitors every year. ✎ Today, more than two million Beatrix Potter books are sold across the world each year – four books every minute.

VISIT THE V&A MUSEUM From 28th July 2016-28th April 2017, Beatrix Potter’s London display will bring together artworks, original sketches and Potter’s earliest published works, to look at the inspirational role London played throughout her career. Highlights include an early drawing of a family pet rabbit, thought to be the real Peter Rabbit who inspired her much-loved character, and a selection of studies and sketches made on Potter’s many visits to the local museums.
