Drivers//Manifestations
Millennials want to go anywhere and everywhere all the time due to the increasing plague of FOMO (fear of missing out). Snapchat stories, Instagram posts, and almost any documentation of our lives’ events glamorize every experience we have in the eyes of our friends and viewers. This enslavement to our smartphones has us constantly checking and refreshing for new notifications and updates over 100 times a day. Not only do we feel addicted to our phones, but we also feel obligated to check them in case we miss anything that means anything to us. The only way we know how to combat FOMO is by joining in these experiences ourselves and taking part in posting, documenting, and glamorizing our most likely not-so-exciting lives. We are battling technology with even more technology. Additionally, smartphones keep expanding every year, both in size and capabilities. The “phablet” craze is well underway due to the fact it combines two products, phone and tablet, into one device. Therefore, this reiterates why we will only continue to embrace this enslavement to our phones. We are obsessed, they are ingrained in our lives and culture.
