A MESSAGE FROM THE
General Manager
Welcome to the April-June 2023 edition of Momentum. As I write this message, our team are about to face the Bulldogs in Sydney, after a solid 2 and 2 start to 2023 season. I have to say, the excitement around the Club certainly lifts during the NRL season and it is easily my favourite 8 months of the year! During the off season, the Club completed the next stage of renovations with the new Team Shop opening at our Flinders Street entrance. The new shop is much larger and has allowed us to increase our range for Cowboys fans. If you haven’t visited yet, be sure to do so soon as the 2023 stock is selling fast. The Club improvements don’t stop there, with the Club also completing a new state-of-the-art Sports Lounge, extension to Star Graze Café and the Golden Point Gaming Lounge, and a new lighting feature to the main gaming floor over the coming months. These projects will help us ensure we continue to provide our members with the best experience we can. The 2023 Clubs QLD Awards were held in March and once again, your Club featured heavily. For the third time in the last 4 years, we received the award for Responsible Service of Gambling and were recognised as having the best practices in the state. We have also been inducted into the Hall of Fame for our Responsible Service of Alcohol practices. We take immense pride in receiving
both these awards as we take a best practice approach to everything we do. It also means that as a valued member, you know that when you visit the Club, you are in a safe, caring, and enjoyable environment. On Wednesday 5th April, we will be introducing new menus to both Star Graze Café and Match Restaurant & Grill, along with rolling out some exciting updates to the Score More Rewards Program. These changes will include all members receiving even greater discounts on all food & beverage purchases, starting at 20% for Cowboys Members. I am sure you will agree, this adds even greater value to what is already the most rewarding program in town. Finally, be sure to look through Momentum for all the exciting things we have on over the next few months. YOUR CLUB IN THE COMMUNITY In February 2023, the Cowboys Leagues Club surpassed an incredible milestone of $11 million in donations to the North Queensland community. Beneficiaries have included various charities, not-for-profit organisations, schools, community groups and worthy individuals across the North Queensland region, including remote areas since the Club first opened its doors in 2001. Chairman of the Cowboys Leagues Club, Mr Daryl Holmes, was extremely proud of the Club’s significant contribution to the community over the years. “Whilst we will always be the official home of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, we see ourselves as so much more than just a Leagues Club. We have a firm belief in striving to support the community that supports us, in any way possible,” Mr Holmes said.
North Queensland Toyota Cowboys player and Club Ambassador Valentine Holmes was proud to join Mr Holmes in celebrating this significant contribution to the community. “I am extremely proud to be part of a Club that truly gives back to those who support it, and an organisation that plays such a valuable role in North Queensland,” Mr Holmes said. For General Manager of the Club Clint Williams, these notable highlights illustrate a clear purpose & direction for the Club’s operation. “Ultimately, we are a 100% community owned Club and at the end of the day, everything we do is to give back to the community that support us. I am very proud that all of our staff & management team are passionate about finding new ways to deliver positive outcomes for the North Queensland region & beyond,” Mr Williams stated.
“From charities and not-for-profit organisations to suppliers, local businesses and employees, the Club has a very strong commitment to the North Queensland community and beyond, and this commitment is an integral part of the Club’s long-term future.”
WORLD'S GREATEST SHAVE
On 17th March, three brave staff members stepped on the main stage of Match Restaurant & Grill and shaved their heads for the World's Greatest Shave. One of the nations biggest fundraisers, this incredible charity raises much needed funds and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation, offering expert support, and funding leading-edge research and campaigns to make change for Australians facing blood cancer. The evening was a great success, running smoothly with the aid of volunteer host Nate from Triple M Townsville, and volunteer hairdresser Natalie, representing Family of League. It was an amazing night and we'd like to thank all our members and guests that donated or supported our team and your Club's fundraising efforts.

STAFF MILESTONES SAMANTHA HAMMOND | 10 YEARS Sam started out with the Club as an apprentice chef, eager to learn the ropes behind the scenes. After completing her training here, she continued to work her way up the ranks to the position of Head Chef. Sam has excelled at the Cowboys as a chef and a great leader, and members and staff can all agree her food is award winning. Congratulations Sam on reaching 10 years service. JENNY POWER | 15 YEARS Jen has been and continues to be an integral part of our gaming team, and is a well known and friendly face on the gaming floor. These prestigious awards aim to recognize excellence in Queensland’s club industry and took place with an audience of over 1000 guests attending the Brisbane Entertainment Centre for the official presentation ceremony. The victory follows the Club’s induction into the Clubs QLD Hall of Fame in 2021 for the Special Achievement Award for Responsible Service of Alcohol, after winning this award three years in a row. Both awards are judged and sponsored by the Queensland Government Office of Liquor & Gaming and recognise not only Clubs which are fully compliant in all responsible gambling & alcohol legislation, but those who go above and beyond to take care of their members & guests.
For Business Development Manager Helen Smyth, it is a great sign that the Cowboys Leagues Club remains at the forefront of hospitality & gaming venues not only in Townsville, but beyond.
