625 Model 1807 U.S. Flintlock “Indian Carbine” Converted to Percussion .54 caliber smoothbore, 33.75” barrel, brass mountings. Lockplate dated 1809 with “US” over spread eagle over “SPRINGFIELD;” brass buttplate is marked “1810;” top of barrel at breech shows “P,” an eagle head, and “S” and “V” proof markings. The wood stock is full length and a round iron ramrod is present. This scarce early gun is in overall good to very good condition showing a dark patina to metal surfaces. Good markings and overall good wood that shows weathering and scattered old mars and scratches from carry and storage. There are some old hairline cracks visible at the top of the wrist area that do not affect the integrity of the stock and appear to have been there, from age, for some time. An important U.S. rifle that according to Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms (9A-118.5), was made ca 1807-1810 in a limited quantity of 1,202 guns. $4,000 - $8,000
626 Superb Wm. Bodenheimer, Lancaster, OH Deluxe Lady’s Squirrel Percussion Rifle .28 caliber, 39” octagonal barrel length, no S/N. Marking on top of the barrel “W. Bodenheimer” next to “W. Bodenheimer.” Marking on lock plate “Conest” over “Rifleworks.” Both sides of the buttstock are inlaid with a large 2.625” long arrow through a heart. Both sides of the stock display a large engraved German silver rococo inlay with 5 piercings that defines the aesthetic movement. Each side sports the signature and classic Bodenheimer incised carved spiral raised check piece. This terminates with the raised German silver inlaid dot. The engraved patent breech with engraved breech plug, integral flash guard and bolster clean out. German silver wrist shield and four wedge escutcheons are engraved. Fancy engraved German silver counter-plate. Original gold-plated buttplate and triggerguard. Walnut stock with ramrod and pewter nose cap. The barrel retains most of the brown finish with very crisp edges. Traces of the gold remain on the buttplate and triggerguard. Walnut stock is in very good condition retaining most of the original varnish. There are a number of extra highlights by this famed maker that make this rifle a beautiful specimen. Unquestionably, this was specifically commissioned as a gift or presentation to a sweetheart or wife. $6,000 - $8,000
627 Curly Maple Full-Stock Percussion Kentucky Rifle .50 caliber, 43.5” octagonal barrel length, no S/N. Marking on lock “London” over “Warranted.” Although unsigned, this rifle has the classic signature style of William Bodenheimer of Lancaster, Ohio. Brass furniture with brown barrel and curly maple stock. All furniture was salvaged from an earlier Kentucky flintlock rifle. This rifle has always been percussion. The stock has a finely articulated raised “saddle like” check piece with undercut shadow effect elongation that terminates in a raised dot. Comes with ramrod. The barrel has a deep, almost black, patina. All brass furniture has a very dark in-the-black patina. The stock retains most of the original varnish and is near black. This is a rare rifle being almost completely untouched. Bore is good. $1,500 - $2,000
