Mel Flanagan Collection 434 Rare French 25-Shot Guycot Chain Pistol .25 caliber, 11” overall with a 4” barrel, S/N 58. Loading of the pistol is accomplished through a sliding cover at the top rear of the frame which accesses the chain’s ammunition “cups.” On the left side of the frame is a safety device that when pressed up, acts to lock the chain and prevents its firing. This oddity is equipped with checkered wood grips. This unique firearm is in overall very good to fine condition with an even grey patina on metal surfaces, crisp action, good bore and fine checkered hardwood grips. There is one left-side plate screw missing. Per Firearms Curiosa by Lewis Winant, pages 206-08, once loaded, the gun can be fired as fast as the trigger can be pulled. The loading process is rather complicated and somewhat dangerous once the first dozen or so cartridges are placed in the “chain” since the trigger must be pulled to advance the chain in preparation to fill the next cartridge “cup” and the safety or locking button previously described must be raised after the trigger has been drawn partly back to keep the firing pin from falling as the chain is rotated. $8,000 - $16,000
