What I Did Over Summer Vacation
Covington Latin School students don’t rest on their laurels during the summer. They share their talents by volunteering, attending conferences, and gaining important life experiences that will benefit them and the community.

Kaylee Johnsonbaugh ‘24 spent much of her summer volunteering. She helped teach free swim lessons with the Newport Penguin’s swim team and was a camp counselor at Camp Invention at Covington Latin School. She also spent a week in Arizona at the Leadership Society of Arizona’s Leadership and Lifeskills Summer Camp.

‘25 volunteered with the Newport Penquin’s swim team, teaching free swim lessons.
Thomas Holocher ‘23 went to the Best Week Ever at Christendom College in Virginia, taking theology, philosophy, English, and history classes.

Gavin Williams ‘26
participated in C.A.M.P. at the University of Cincinnati DAAP this summer. It is a weeklong program focused on architecture and creating an entry-level interest with junior high students while providing mentoring opportunities. Kyla Davis ‘25 spent her summer volunteering at a clinic for children with autism. She played games and socially interacted with the clients. Her time at the clinic was to help the clients she spent time with, work on social skills and be a friend to them. She gained excellent experience getting to interact with diverse populations of children.
Lily spent six weeks working as a CIT (Counselor-inTraining) for the Cincinnati Parks. She volunteered 32 hours a week, helping children (from preschool age through 12 yrs) to learn about nature and guiding them in many fun camp activities.

Luckhart ‘26
attended an aviation camp at the Greater Cincinnati Airport. He’s hoping to pursue a career in aerospace engineering.

Nora Eddnadni ‘22 participated in a film-making camp at WKU's School of Media Studies. She learned the basics of screenwriting, lighting, sound, camera work, and editing and created a short film. She also attended an acting day camp for high school students at the Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati. Additionally, she spent a week at church camp, Camp WakonDa'Ho, and helped with her church's Vacation Bible School. Monica Juelg ‘24 and Gemma Feldman ‘24 had the opportunity to attend the HOBY Leadership Conference in June.

Langston Gifford ‘28
practiced piano 5-7 hours a day this summer in preparation for his recitals and concerts. We can’t wait to hear him on our pianos at school!

Olivia Brown ‘23, Andrew Browning ‘23,
and Gianna Syfert ‘23 represented CLS at the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program this summer. Alexander Work-Deaton ‘25 is interested in going into law once he graduates from Latin School. He had the opportunity to shadow his uncle in the Boone County Public Defender office this summer.




Austin Matheny ‘23, Anthony Brown ‘23,
and Jackson Richardson ‘23 went on a Latin School-sponsored trip to Great Britain this summer with Mrs. Darpel and Ms. Tewes. They toured the capitals of Belfast, Dublin, Edinburgh, and London. Great Britain Trip!

Garrett Maines
led a team of students at the Simon Kenton Basketball Camp this summer. He was the only student outside the district leading a team.
attended The National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) – National Security through Envision in Washington, DC, this summer. He learned about diplomacy, intelligence, defense, and national cyber security. He met former CIA agents and worked on cyberrelated security simulations.


In June, Jack Rauf ‘25 attended National Youth Leadership Training, a six-day course centering around what a leader must be, what they must know, and what they must do. Jack spent his next week volunteering at ExploreMore! and then headed to Camp Woodruff in Georgia to complete a week of Boy Scout camp with his troop. During this week, Jack earned merit badges for Archery, Chess, and Kayaking. Jack finally took a week off before he and his dad, Tom Rauf ‘99, headed to New Mexico for Philmont. During this trip, Jack and other members of his scout troop hiked 112 miles over the course of 12 days. As his summer came to a close, Jack was awarded Star Scout rank and was appointed Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for his troop, assuming the responsibilities of coordinating troop activities and guiding the younger scouts on their path through advancement. He had a great summer and is looking forward to upcoming opportunities to put his new skills to use!

‘25 has been a camper at Benton
Farm’s Adventure
Days on the farm since he was five.
He returned to the farm this summer as a second-year Counselor in Training, offering his time, service, leadership, and talent to the campers at the farm. Gabriel also was elected to the Scouts Honor Society, Order of the Arrow, and will soon complete the induction through a campout and service activity. Melissa Longbrake ‘24 and Elizabeth Longbrake ‘21 participated in several summer Boy Scout of America events. Melissa participated in Scouts BSA National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). Melissa and Elizabeth participated with their Scouts BSA Troop at Summer Camp and then at Sea Base National High Adventure Base. Summer Camp is a traditional summer camp with a little everything, such as skills training, leadership training, swimming, boating, and just having fun. At Sea Base, they went snorkeling, SCUBA Diving, participated in a conservation project, and spent three days on a sailboat. They also visited a turtle hospital and Everglades National Park.



Julia Devadason ‘24 was selected to participate in the Kentucky Governor’s School of Arts Program in Voice.

Addyson Gearding ‘25
represented Campbell County at the 4H Leadership Conference. Marielle Gearding ‘23 was a Counselor in Training at the North Central 4-H Camp.
Spencer Gearding ‘26
attended Centre College’s Swim Camp to improve his technique and represent CLS this coming season.
