Pathogeninformation: Corona viruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from common cold to more severe diseases such as MiddleEastRespiratorySyndrome(MERS-CoV)andSevereAcuteRespiratorySyndrome(SARS-CoV). SARS-CoV-2 (COVID19)isanewstrainthathasnotbeenpreviouslyidentifiedinhumans. Interpretation: A"POSITIVE"resultindicatesthatSevereAcuteRespiratorySyndromeCoronaVirus-2(SARS-CoV2)RNAispresentinthegivensampleandsuggeststhediagnosisofcoronavirusdisease2019(COVID19).Testresultshouldalwaysbeconsideredinthecontextofpatient'sclinicalhistory,physicalexamination,andepidemiologic exposures. A"NEGATIVE"resultindicatesthatSARS-CoV-2 isnotpresentinthe patient'sgivenspecimen.Resultshouldbecorrelatedwithpatient’shistoryand clinicalpresentation.
