Our nurse practitioner diagnoses and writes a letter of medical necessity or prescription for you to receive wellness care. Our Chiropractors align the joints to address the cause of symptoms and allow the nervous system to communicate with vital organs. If you suffer from pain, our PowerStrips are an all natural patch that is listed with the FDA as a medical device to relieve any type of pain. SMC is where pain ends and health begins. Ashley teaches hydration, foundational Nutrition and Cleanse programs. The Kleanse floods the body with an abundance of alkaline, nutrient dense foods and hydration. This approach stimulates and assists the body’s natural cleansing and detoxifying process and promotes healthy pH balance. Research shows routine massages alleviate pain, improve sleep, boost immunity, beat PMS, raise alertness, curb headaches, ease cancer symptoms and treatments. Ashley blends her studies, advanced techniques and experience in cultural traditions into each session. Oils, derived from the essence of the plant, were man’s first medicine. Authentic, pure botanical oils are scientifically proven antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, anti-fungal, anti-infectious, anti-parasitic and promote well-being. With thousands of molecules available to each cell, these high frequency oils travel throughout the body to deliver antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, photo-nutrients and healing constituents. Advanced classes are journeys through physical progressions and self-realization. Many people experience mental focus, spiritual clarity and physical freedom. In 1967, Fountaintown Gas Co., Inc. began as a small, family-owned business. Robert Wortman obtained ownership of local gas wells located in Fountaintown that were serving the community, but with a limited gas supply. Mr. Wortman recognized a need for natural gas service in the small communities of central Indiana that were not being served by the large gas utilities. He began construction of a modern distribution system that was connected to a major intrastate pipeline. The pipeline connection would allow Fountaintown Gas to provide reliable service and adequately supply the needs of residential, commercial, and industrial customers; which is vital to the survival of small towns. Fountaintown Gas Co., Inc. has grown to serve the Shelby County communities of Finly, Flat Rock, Fountaintown, Freeport, Gwynneville, Marietta, Mt. Auburn, Morristown, St. Paul, and Waldron; as well as communities in Decatur, Hancock, Henry and Rush counties. The small, family-owned business founded almost fifty years ago now has three generations of the Wortman family, a team of qualified technicians, billing specialists, and customer service providers working together to meet the needs of our customers and expanding the vision of the company founder. Dedicated to our Communities: Fountaintown Gas Co., Inc. has remained dedicated to serving the communities with more than just their natural gas needs. In 2010, Mr. Wortman created the Fountaintown Gas Co., Inc. Scholarship. The scholarship provides an educational benefit to students, served by the gas company, who plan to pursue an accredited certification or degree at a post-secondary institution. The scholarship is awarded annually to a visionary individual, who with the benefit of additional education, will impact their community in a positive way. Since 2012, Fountaintown Gas Co., Inc. employees have volunteered their time to helping with the Gleaners Mobile Food Pantry, a project of The Shelby County Pantry Pals, when it comes to Morristown. Mr. Wortman continues to value and encourage community involvement by the Gas Co. and its employees in the areas served. To contact Fountaintown Gas Co., Inc., call (765)763-6393.

Dear Chamber Members, Here at The Shelbyville News, we ask ourselves every day how we can help you in your business. We know that the newspaper industry is changing and we understand that to get ahead, we all need to offer more to come out ahead of the competition. Winston Churchill once said “To improve is to change: to be perfect is to change often. Although we are not perfect, it is in the stride to become better than we were yesterday through change, that we might realize our potential. As you may have noticed, there have been many changes in The Shelbyville News with the new and improved website as well as group buys in the classifieds reaching over 40,000 readers. On Sunday, June 29, we began publishing a Sunday edition of The Shelbyville News. You will see expanded and timely sports coverage with more content, more information, new special features, full color comics, higher readership and more LOCAL news. We will no longer publish a Saturday or a Monday edition effective June 28. This allows us the opportunity to offer better products to our readers and therefore a better avenue to spread your message. Our company is excited about this conversion to a 5 day a week publication, Tuesday through Friday and Sunday special edition. We know it will offer you the same, if not better, opportunity to reach our market for your products and services. We greatly appreciate and value your business. You are what keeps us looking at new and better ways in which to partner with you and help grow your business. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or your advertising sales associate. Sincerely,

SHELBYVILLE: A Triple Win

For 15 years in a row, Indiana’s Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has ranked first in U.S. News & World Report list of U.S. undergraduate engineering programs. With such a prestigious school within the state, Shelby County and the city of Shelbyville recognized a great opportunity to partner with Rose-Hulman to better prepare Shelby County public school students for higher education in science, technology and engineering; to enhance workforce development efforts; and to build a local culture of entrepreneurship and innovation.

The “Innovative Model: Positioning Communities for Transformation (IMPaCT)” partnership was officially launched in 2013 as a three-year commitment between Rose-Hulman, Shelby County and the city of Shelbyville. The partnership’s primary goals include increasing the number of Shelby County students with the skills necessary for higher education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); connecting Rose-Hulman students with the local technology industry; establishing a network of industry, academic, and government leadership; raising awareness of the professional development and other engineering resources available through the college; and introducing high school freshmen to the plethora of career opportunities with the more than 30 local industries in Shelby County. A number of programs have been established to accomplish the partnership’s goals: • • • • • • •

“Operation Catapult” is a unique summer program that exposes recent high school juniors to engineering and applied science through project work at Rose-Hulman. “EMERGE” connects Rose-Hulman student mentors with 9th grade students to expose them to academic opportunities and careers in STEM-related fields. The Shelby County Entrepreneurial Internship Program embeds Rose-Hulman students in local companies, providing these companies with high caliber technical skills while positioning Shelby County as an attractive location to work and live. Rose-Hulman’s professional development programming gives local employees the opportunity to enhance their technical and professional capabilities. The Innovation Network connects Shelby County industry, academic and government leadership with Rose-Hulman alumni, faculty, students and staff through bi-monthly networking events sponsored by the City of Shelbyville and college’s department of engineering management. The Rose-Hulman Ventures Innovation Partnership provides Shelby County entrepreneurs and companies with access to design, prototyping and testing services from Rose-Hulman student intern teams.

All business/education partnerships are challenged by scheduling issues – students are typically available only during the school year and have class requirements that must be met within a specific time frame. Shelby County and Shelbyville have worked to build bridges between business leaders and Shelby County School administrators, key office staff, counselors, and educators to better align with school initiatives and curriculum. These efforts have started to pay off; high school students involved in the new EMERGE program have said, “EMERGE is fun and it’s making my decisions easier!” The networking events are well-attended and have inspired greater collaboration and community pride among residents, businesses and educators. Shelby County and Shelbyville would describe the IMPaCT partnership as a triple win – Shelby County youth have new pathways to explore careers with local industry and in the fields of science and technology, Rose-Hulman students have new opportunities to strengthen their skills in the workplace, and businesses have new ways to invest in future employees for long-term success. For more information about Shelbyville’s IMPaCT program, visit http://impactshelbycounty.org/ or contact Rob Springer, Redevelopment Commission Director at (317) 398-6624.
