Celebrating Stone Hill Winery’s 175th Anniversary and Best Winery of the Midwest Award

STONE HILL WINERY’S LEGACY

Established in 1847, Stone Hill Winery in Hermann, Missouri, is the state’s oldest and most awarded winery. The historic winery was once the second largest winery in the United States until Prohibition. Reopened in 1965 by Jim and Betty Held, it reestablished the Missouri wine industry and continues to produce wines from their own vineyards in and around Hermann. The property has been restored to showcase its original German American mid-18th-century architecture. Tours of the underground cellar system, the largest series of arched underground cellars in the country, are a must-see. As you walk through the cellars, you will see firsthand how wine is made. The Vintage 1847 Restaurant is a unique culinary destination. Focusing on German and American cuisine, it is situated within the original barn and horse stables. The Sherry House is the event space and hosts live music on weekends. It is the perfect place to sit and relax with a glass of wine looking over the vineyards and the rolling hills of Hermann.

175TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT

Stone Hill Winery proudly remains owned and operated by the 2nd and 3rd generation of the Held family and celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2022. A full day of events open to the public are scheduled to celebrate this special landmark anniversary on June 11, 2022 starting at 10am. Live German music will begin at 10:30am, followed with a Bluegrass band at 1pm. Tours can be enjoyed every hour, as well as Q&A with the winery leaders and winemakers. There will also be barrel making demonstrations throughout the day. You won’t want to miss all the fun, lots of good food, drinks and wine specials at 1110 Stone Hill Hwy, Hermann, Missouri.

MIDWEST LIVING MAGAZINE BEST WINERY AWARD

Another great accomplishment is Stone Hill Winery has been named Midwest Living Magazine’s Best Winery in their 2022 Best of the Midwest edition. The magazine focuses on highlighting the best of food and drink, travel, wellness, and culture to share their favorite destinations of the year. “It is an exceptional honor to be named the Best Midwest Winery by Midwest Living. Since my parents re-started the winery in 1965, their mission, and ours still today, is to always create the highest quality wines along with fantastic memories for every guest that visits. We love welcoming guests every day to our winery and introducing them to our region’s unique wine heritage. Looking at this year’s other winners, we are humbled to be in exceptional company and are deeply proud to be a standard bearer of Missouri and the Midwest for national and international visitors,” said Jon Held, President of Stone Hill Winery. With 50 winners selected in 2022, Stone Hill Winery was chosen out of the over 1100+ wineries across the Midwest as the recipient of Food and Drink – Best Winery award. “This is such a wonderful accolade to receive. We are constantly striving to champion the uniqueness of this region’s grapes and wines, so it is fantastic to be recognized as one of our region’s best! This award certainly belongs to all of our great staff who have come together to make the winery the best in the Midwest. It is our vineyard and cellar crews making great wines, the showroom manager and staff making an exceptional hospitality and tasting experience, our restaurant and kitchen team making delicious food and wine pairings, and everyone behind the scenes coming together to make everything click,” said Nathan Held, Director of Strategy at Stone Hill Winery. Stone Hill Winery’s legacy lives on in pioneering and championing Missouri grown American heritage and hybrid grapes and qualityfocused winemaking.
