DAY 01 ARRIVE LIMA
Fly to Lima and transfer to your hotel.
DAY 02 LIMA
Begin your day with a tour to the historical Plaza de Armas. Explore the Santo Domingo Monastery and roam the old colonial streets and the modern district of San Isidro and Miraflores. Appreciate the Larco Museum’s extensive collection of pre-Columbian art. Enjoy a gourmet lunch. (Breakfast, lunch included)
DAY 03 LIMA/ AREQUIPA
Fly to Arequipa. Visit the colonial styled Monasterio de Santa Catalina which once served as a town housing 450 nuns. Learn about sacrificial rites and offerings to Apus, the mountain Gods and see the Juanita Mummy, a child mummy in the Museum Santuarios Andinos. (Breakfast included)
DAY 04 AREQUIPA/ COLCA CANYON
Drive 4 hours to Colca Canyon, crossing Pampa Cañahuas at the Aguada Blanca National Reserve. Stop at the Mirador de los Andes, the Crater of Chucura and Mirador de Chivay, where beautiful pre-Columbian terraces are still being cultivated by the natives. Explore the local market at Chivay. Enjoy hot spring baths in your hotel. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner included)
DAY 05 COLCA CANYON/ PUNO
Spot the Condor, an impressive Andean bird circling the “Condor’s Cross” and continue driving to Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world. Drive 5-6 hours to Puno. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner included)
DAY 06 PUNO/ LAKE TITICACA
Take a boat ride across Lake Titicaca to the unique floating Tortora reed island of the Uros. Explore Llachon, a lesser-visited Quechua community. Enjoy village walks, house visits, witness the farming and weaving activities of the locals and taste local cuisine. (Breakfast, lunch included)
DAY 07 PUNO/ CUSCO
Featured on BBC’s Great Railway Journey of the World, a spectacular 10 hour rail journey across the high Antiplano brings you to Cusco. (Train departs Mon, Wed, Sat from Nov to Mar. DAY 08 CUSCO
Wander through the vibrant bazaar and Cusco city. Visit the Cathedral and Sun Temple and experience the great cosmic energy at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress. (Breakfast, lunch included)
DAY 09 CUSCO/ MACHU PICCHU
Transfer to Ollantaytambo or Poroy station for your train ride to Machu Picchu. Overnight and explore Machu Picchu in the evening and early morning when the masses of tourists are gone and the ruin is at its best! (Breakfast, dinner included)
DAY 10 MACHU PICCHU/ SACRED VALLEY
Have the morning to explore Machu Picchu at your own leisure. For the energetic, climb to the Sun Gate or Huayna Picchu. Train back to Sacred Valley and visit the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo. (Breakfast included)
DAY 11 SACRED VALLEY/ CUSCO/ DEPART LIMA
If time permits, visit the archaeological site of Pisac. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima. Enjoy a refined seafood dinner before your flight home. (Breakfast, dinner included)
