Synopsis: In this experiential workshop we will connect with several aspects of working clinically with trauma. We will do this through practical exercises, expert video interviews, videos from leaders in the field of trauma, fictional client examples and much more. Using Dan Siegel’s Wheel of Awareness we will consider aspects of each spoke and how he relates this concept to body, mind and environment. We will learn how traumatised clients’ frames of reference can be distorted around their perceptions of what is and isn’t safe. Throughout the course we will consider connections with body and mind and how trauma enmeshes with both, drawing on theories from neuroscience, polyvagal theories, the autonomic nervous system etc. These theories are to help us understand how to support clients by attuning to their body cues and offering ways to support themselves. We will consider developmental traumas and how these interruptions or ruptures impact on progressing through key stages of growth. There are developmental stages relating to traumas in areas such as intergenerational, pre-birth, birth and beyond. We will focus on the embodied level of working with trauma, thinking about working ethically, about therapist’s self-care, about the wounded healer’s perspective of ownership and awareness of traumas and about transference and counter-transference. Also, we will work on how to self-supervise and how to write effective notes, as well as considering support and tips for getting the most out of clinical supervision. You will be required to write a journal as part of your reflective practice. Eventbrite Booking: ‘Online Certificate in Working with Trauma’ £10.00 non-refundable deposit. A contract and confirmation letter will be sent to you following the initial Eventbrite booking. Location: Online Course – Zoom. 6

Synopsis: You are the ‘product’ of your work. As health and social care professionals, learning and development - both personally and professionally are unified. Negative beliefs about ourselves often impact on our sense of identity, purpose and direction. With an experiential approach, using the four elements as our guide, we will explore the pitfalls and origins of the ‘imposter syndrome’. This negative, internalised dialogue often inhibits us in knowing, seeing or actualising our true, expansive potential. Our time together will be focused on your development, relating to the themes through the lenses of Self, Others and the World. The nourishing environment at Overgrown Acres will support us to engage with earth elements, whilst relating this to our personal journeys. As a group we will share our growing needs, recognise our learning edges and celebrate our strengths. The group will co-create energy through the four elements to invite courage in each other to meet our potential - and even to go beyond it? You will, no doubt, get more than you initially ask for. Eventbrite Booking: ‘Personal & Professional Development Group ‘The Elements of Change – September 2021’ £10.00 non-refundable deposit. A contract and confirmation letter will be sent to you following the initial Eventbrite booking. Location: Overgrown Acres, Nottingham (Online if another lockdown emerges). 8

Synopsis: Working with traumatised people is a specific skill base. We need to be aware of how to make contact relationally, navigating the impact of trauma emotionally, physically, and cognitively. P. Crossman’s (1980) concept of the 3 Ps - Permission, Protection and Potency – is one of the many theories that we will connect with in our skills practice. In this part one skills practice course Janine will offer teaching on aspects of working with trauma such as: • • • • •

Guidance on therapeutic interventions Developing skills to make effective contact with your clients Holding of different types of boundaries Self-care Being purposeful in the use of self and the place of clinical supervision

Through skills practice you will have an opportunity to be supervised by Janine in one of the ten triads. Eventbrite Booking: ‘Skills Practice Course – Working with Trauma – Part One £10.00 non-refundable deposit. Synopsis: Ongoing, lived-out (lived-in) traumatisation is what Janina Fisher referred to as “trauma in enduring circumstances”. This is often called Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) and is associated with relational ruptures. It is often a challenge to work with this client group. The wounding’s CPTSD causes can involve mistrust, shame, projected negative beliefs about self, others and the world lived out (in) as enactments with the therapist. Dissociation or disconnecting can be a way to defend or to protect the survival of the vulnerable, often hurt self. A natural survival mechanism which relates to mind, body and soul. Working therapeutically whilst a client is dissociated can be challenging, unsettling at times. This often confused, disorientating place can also be I way in to understanding your client’s inner world of their protected wounds. Through experiential learning and fictitious case study examples, we will work with the four Primal Wounds from Adrienne Lee (2008). • • • •

Abandonment Engulfment Non-involvement Hurt

How do these wounds and many more therapy concepts connect with CPTSD and what happens in transference within the therapeutic relationship? This course is a continuation on from ‘The Certificate in Working with Trauma’. Attendance at the certificate course is required to move on to this next level. Eventbrite Booking: ‘Online working with Complex Trauma – Part One £10.00 non-refundable deposit. A contract and confirmation letter will be sent to you following the initial Eventbrite booking.
