Situated

in Jacobs

Pillow,

Massachusetts Berkshires, Nested Enclave, focuses on the development and emphasis on themes of nesting and transparency. Consisting of three primary elements, namely a theatre, an archive and a concrete nest. The theatre, sitting within the concrete nest, houses five transa dance academy in the

parent theaters that maintain moving wall systems that allow for the expansion and limitation of the theatre spaces.

The

tertiary element, the archive space, sits almost floating between the theatre and the concrete nest, weaving in and out of both programs.

million sf2 master-planning project located in kendall square in an effort to redevelop the longstanding

volpe parcel. the project includes public spaces and parks, new bike and pedestrian paths, as well as housing,

retail, science, and innovation space. work for the project included parametric prototyping of facade designs and

3 dimensional additive manufacturing using the objet260 connex3 3D Printer, Stratys dimension 1200es 3d printer and fusion m2 40 Llzer cutter.

work completed alongside christine song, genevieve dominiak, tom carrier, and joe kile. all rights to elkus manfredi architects.

comprising of three primary components, the project becomes an antithesis, in experiencing the monumentalism from the inside, instead of seeing it from the outside.

An

out-of-this-world experience only able to be seen

when inside the space. through the first component, water, the project isolates itself from the city of syra-

cuse, becoming its own entity. the concrete walls that encase the above-ground institutions, become the sec-

ond component, further isolating the institutions that lay within its walls, and supporting and machining the

organism that is created. thirdly, and most importantly, the form that remains hidden, weaving through the water and the concrete, connecting and providing a new angle at which to view the above world.

layers of skin, scales of segregation focuses on the fundamental issues within syracuse’s

the context of skin, the central factor to injustice.

Using

15th ward through

a series of tools, including a texture atlas as well

as methods of layering, compiling and cutting, the final intervention seeks to address issues of fragmentation and segregation within the site, through physical and visual means.

aiming to stitch together both sides of the site as a result of the separation invoked by the acts as a central spine, with the

I-81, jackson st

I-81 no longer present. working as a pedestrian promenade, a series of pro-

grammatic nodes are strategically placed along its intersections and a more curvilinear pathway connects

them by undulating across the spine. colour plays a pivotal role within the project, emanating visual and sensory cues to those that travel along its path. with a gradient shifting from yellow to purple, the colours signify programmatic shifts as well as symbolic, historical, and cultural associations.

major programmatic elements include a cooperative grocery store, a café, a performance space, a greenhouse/ bio-dome, a community center, a historical remembrance and memorial space, and finally, a library.

Undula-

tions in the curvilinear path work in tandem with the nodes. a strict drop in elevation upon encountering the

memorial space brings people in and amplifies its effects. a slight raise in elevation within the central communal spaces and main entrance to help elevate their importance.

focusing on the architectural period of brutalism, the soas library on the university of london campus in

bloomsbury, central london is an iconic piece of work designed by denys lasdun. the intent of this building

analysis was to formulate our own argument for the building’s architectural language and purpose, based on

our own thorough investigation and perception. inside out argues that the soas library is a fortress, acting as a mechanism for students and visitors alike to feel either excluded, and physically separated

(if

on the

outside), or included and sheltered in a ‘womb’ (if on the inside).
