BITE SIZE What is standing in the way of our theatre? NEWS: Continued from page 5 Manzanares has been delighted by the endorsement given to the quality of the sea water off the shores of Torrevieja. Samples were taken from eight places including Torrelamata, Cabo Cervera, Los Locos, El Cura, the pools of Paseo Juan Aparicio, Los NĂĄufragos, Mar Azul and Cala Piteras. The samples were taken during the summer season from June 1st to 15th September and were given the highest rating of âexcellentâ. The grades range from insufficient to excellent and itâs an important result for a town that many people come to because of its beaches. The results from the last four bathing seasons (2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018) are analysed and recorded each year.
It has been closed since September 2015, the townâs municipal theatre hasnât seen an audience since that date and one of the most important venues for performances has remained stubbornly closed. Why? There is no longer a structural reason why the theatre canât open. The necessary safety work that was outstanding has

Councillor Fanny Serrano explained to the press that this action is being taken because the architect has failed to complete on the work. He refuses to sign off the safety works that have been carried out on the building since it was closed in 2015. âThe building meets all security requirements now,â explained councillor Serrano. âWhat we are missing is the end of work certificate that we need to obtain the opening licence.â Suzanne OâConnell
Christmas card competition A Christmas card competition for children has been announced. Primary schools in Torrevieja are taking part and the categories include infant, 1st and 2nd year of primary, 3rd and 4th year of primary, 5th and 6th year of primary. The art work must be inspired by Christmas. The prizes are school materials that range in value from âŹ30 to âŹ75. Entries can be made in the primary schools themselves or in the Centro Cultural Virgen del Carmen from Monday to Friday 9am until 2pm until 5th December.
