CRAWFORD STREET Vanilla Mint Lip Balm, $6, at CrawfordSkincare.com.
This look, also known as the bouche mordue (which translates to bitten mouth), was recently seen on runways for Dior and Ulla Johnson. “This blurry, sheer, matte look gives us a bit of sophistication and playfulness for the winter,” says celebrity makeup and hair artist Alanna Fennell. “Think soft sweaters, cozy fires, red wine, and coming in from the cold (or under the mistletoe) looking perfectly flushed.”Start with exfoliated and hydrated lips—use a moisturizing balm as part of your skin prep. Next, choose a matte lipstick and tap it onto your lips using your finger. For a more dramatic look, Fennell says, tap more colour in the inner part of your bottom lip so it’s opaque. Then, gently press your lips together a few times to transfer the colour to the top lip. Make sure “the colour stays concentrated and doesn’t move out over the entire lip,” Fennell says. As a finishing touch, gently blur and blend the edges with a clean finger or a lip brush, and clean up the shape with concealer or foundation if needed.
