Many critiques of the role technology plays in society are based on the fact that current technological direction is largely determined by the interests of the state, capital, or those with power to dominate in society. Some argue that if you could change these social relations and the worldviews that engender them, then technology could be reimagined and repurposed, allowing humans to flourish and avoiding the creation of ever-greater controls on our existence. 57
