Background:
With 2.3 million calls made in its previous season, the Airtel TRACE Music Star (ATMS) talent search is the biggest music competition to ever take place in Africa.
Concept Description
Trace Stars is an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) based music competition that gives participants an opportunity to become the next big music star by simply dialing a short code on the Airtel Network (533) without having to go through long and expensive traditional auditioning.
The Steps To Stardom
(1) Submission and Friends & Family voting period
o Dial 533 on your mobile phone and follow the prompts; o Sing and record any song of your choice; o Submit; o A successful submission will receive a unique code; o The entrants call for the votes by promoting the code attributed to their songs to their funs by any means at their discretion; o Entrants’ fans can vote for them by sending their song codes by SMS to a specific SMS short code.
TOP 5 FINALISTS
•
After Stage 1, five (5) finalists will be chosen by a panel
of experienced judges (from the music and media industry) on the basis
of
the
finalists’ potential
of
becoming
successful,
professional musicians and creative artists.

This is done in order to ensure that the finalists, from which
a national winner will be selected, have enough talent to duly represent the country at the upcoming Pan-African contest which puts all the national winners of the participating territories in Competition with each other.
(2) National Finale voting period
• The 5 finalists chosen at the end of STAGE 1 will be promoted on TRACE TV channels and social media and on local media in order to collect fan votes that will be taken into
consideration during the National Finale. JUDGE
• During STAGE 2, the general public (AIRTEL Subscribers)
can vote for their favorite finalist via their AIRTEL mobile phones. The national winner will be chosen in the framework of one or several televised shows.
(3) Grande Finale Voting Period
• The National winners of each participating country will be
promoted on TRACE TV channels and social media and on local media in order to collect fan votes that will be taken into consideration during the Grande Finale.
• Votes are Pan-African: the general public (AIRTEL Subscribers) can vote for their favorite national winner via their AIRTEL mobile phones. The Pan African winner will be chosen in the framework of one or several televised shows.
