The Tavistock event forms part of the choir’s 22-venue tour of the UK and features a compelling programme in which the first half illuminates the spiritual drama and splendour of the Eastern Orthodox tradition, Rachmaninov’s Nunc Dimittis is a highlight, while in the second, songs of joy, humour and nostalgia convey the exceedingly rich folk culture of Ukraine. UK tour organiser Margaret Rolle said: “For those who have not heard them before, the Boyan Ensemble is known for its mastery of vocal technique, with delicately floated pianissimos, breathtakingly brilliant fortes and a bass resonance unique to this internationally acclaimed male choir. Superb soloists feature throughout a programme of spine-tingling propensity.” Boyan’s members are drawn from the Ukraine’s top professional male choir, the Kiev-based Revutsky Academic Male Capella. Tickets £15 from the Tavistock Tourist Information Centre with more information available at www.vocalclassics.co.uk/boyan or by calling 01822 612938.
