Cornell Raises $512 Million In Donations By ANNE SNABES

Cornell received $512 million in gifts and commitments in Fiscal Year 2018, about $230 million less than the amount given in the previous fiscal year. Cornell received $743 million in Fiscal Year 2017. Fred Van Sickle, vice president of alumni affairs and development, said yearly fluctuations are “not unusual” because of “exceptional gifts.” H. Fisk Johnson ’79, M. Eng ’80, M.S. ’82, MBA ’84, Ph.D. ’86 gave $150 million to Cornell in the 2017 fiscal year to endow the SC Johnson College of Business. Of this fiscal year’s donations, $436 million support the Ithaca and Cornell Tech campuses and $77 million support Weill Cornell Medicine. See DONATIONS page 4

Democratic candidate for New York State governor Cynthia Nixon announced on her Facebook page Wednesday that she will travel to Ithaca on Saturday, Sept. 1 to make a “major environmental announcement.”
Nixon, a former Broadway and television actress, will challenge incumbent Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic party nomination in the Sept.13 primary. Hazing | The Cornell chapter of Delta Phi (located in Ezra Cornell’s Llenroc mansion, seen above) has had its recognition revoked for at least four years following reports of hazing incidents during recruitment season.
Following hazing events that occurred in February 2018, the University revoked the recognition of the Cornell chapter of Delta Phi — also known as Llenroc — for a period of “no less than four years” according to the University’s hazing violations website. Several reports of
hazing were sent to the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life during new-member period. Per protocol, OFSOL’s Review Board launched and completed an investigation into the chapter and found it “responsible for violations of the Fraternity and Sorority Recognition Policy (including hazing) and Event Management See LLENROC page 5
