Cornell Police and the Endicott Bomb Squad removed a “small, improvised explosive device” from Bartels Hall Tuesday. A University staff member allegedly brought the device to the campus building after locating it off-campus, according to a University press release. Authorities initially responded to the scene at approximately 1:30 p.m. and took precaution to “secure the immediate area.” The University said there was “no immediate danger” when the device was removed at around 3:45 p.m.
A joint investigation into the incident by Cornell Police, the Endicott Bomb Squad and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is ongoing, according to the University. No charges have been filed, and the University states there is “no indication” that the individual who brought the explosive device to campus had any “malicious intent.” The University determined that there was “not an immediate need to notify the greater Cornell community” of the incident, following consultation with the Endicott Bomb Squad. On a roll | A new sushi truck, That’s How I Roll, opens on Thurston Avenue across from Risley Hall. By RYAN HUMPHREY Sun Staff Writer
That’s How I Roll — a food truck specializing in sushi burritos, maki rolls and hand rolls — opened Wednesday on 500 Thurston Ave. The food truck, located next to Louie’s Lunch, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to owner Woepa Zegid. Zegid, who is the former head sushi chef at Plum Tree Japanese Restaurant, said he has long looked forward to opening his own truck.
“I have been a sushi chef since I was 17 or 18 and I have wanted to open a food truck since I moved to Ithaca in 2009, but for a long time I wasn’t able to get a permit,” Zegid said. Zegid said he wanted to open up his truck at the intersection of Williams and Stewart Avenues — a plan which has been delayed due to Tuesday’s fire. “We hope to do a late-night shift from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday — but have to wait because of the construction going on now from See SUSHI page 4
