A GROUP of hinterland potters have looked to their community for inspiration in their upcoming exhibition which opens this Friday (13th May) at the Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre. The exhibition, titled Belonging and Association of Place, saw the Cooroy Potters’ Group look closely at what connects them with their local environment. Monika Juengling has drawn on elements of the current Cooroy Butter Factory site and its indig-

enous history as a traditional meeting place, with her works titled “Sound of the Elders”. Another artist Sandy Viney has looked to the patterns in the night sky and worked from photographs to bring those images into her glazing. Long-term group member Pam Walsh, has drawn on images of local landmarks and said initial preparation for the exhibition saw the group talk about their connection to place and what it meant to them.

“We are excited about this exhibition which is deeply personal to each of us,” Pam said. “Belonging to community and associating with place are key ideals of the Cooroy Potters and our feelings of pride in belonging to a welcoming hinterland community are echoed in our diverse creations”. The Cooroy Potters group has been meeting informally for ten years, and more regularly over the last four years. The community potters meet each Friday at the Butter Factory Pot-
