AVOID FALSE ALARMS The Broward Sheriff’s Office responds to thousands of false alarm calls each month. Nearly 76% of these calls are caused by user error. The following tips are being offered to Broward County residents in an effort to reduce the number of false alarm calls and allow deputies more time to respond to calls of crimes in progress: • Know your system’s password and how to properly cancel false alarms. • Everyone with a key to your property must be instructed on how to operate the alarm and how to cancel false alarms. Always make special arrangements for guests and technicians. • Secure all doors and windows before you turn on your system. Drafts that move plants or curtains are common causes of false alarms. • Avoid triggering the alarm’s sensors by securing helium-filled balloons. If possible, do not let pets roam free in the home when the alarm system is activated. • Notify your security company immediately if you think your system isn’t working properly. Schedule routine maintenance and check your system’s battery often. • Update your emergency contact list as often as necessary. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is committed to making our community safer.
