iz a história que o nosso bem-amado Chiado sempre foi um sítio animado, frequentado pelo clero, pela nobreza e, após o terramoto, pela burguesia dedicada ao comércio, acabando por se tornar no coração da capital. Já em 1894 os grandes Armazéns do Chiado se intitulavam “Os maiores estabelecimentos do paiz e que mais barato vendem” e traziam a Lisboa um pouco de Paris, em roupa e tecidos, perfumes e até jóias, havendo sucursais por Portugal fora. Com o trágico incêndio de 1988, os Armazéns ruíram para (re)abrirem onze anos mais tarde, com as suas inúmeras lojas, restaurantes e até um hotel. Numa década, os Armazéns do Chiado tornaram-se num lugar incontornável da capital, destino dos mais variados públicos. Há que fazer-lhes uma vénia, pois são um dos principais pólos dinamizadores desta zona histórica, marcando a fronteira entre a Baixa e o Chiado, e funcionando como âncora ao comércio local. istory has it that our cherished Chiado was always a lively place, frequented by the clergy, nobility and, after the earthquake, trading middle classes, who turned it into the heart of the capital. In 1894 the big Armazéns do Chiado already called themselves “The country’s largest establishments and purveyors of the cheapest goods” and brought a little taste of Paris to Lisbon, from clothes and fabrics to perfumes and even jewellery, with branches throughout Portugal. With the tragic fire in 1988, the Armazéns were razed only to (re)open eleven years later with countless shops, restaurants and even a hotel. In a decade, the Armazéns do Chiado have become an essential part of the city and a magnet for a wide section of the population. You have to tip your hat to them, as they are one of the most dynamic corners of this historic quarter, marking the border between Baixa and Chiado, and acting as a mainstay for local commerce.
