Paula
Paula Crespo tem um carinho especial pela Rua da Esperança, onde está a loja que fundou há dez anos, a Reverso Artes e Ofícios. “Tem uns prédios lindos”, diz “e é das ruas com mais varandas em ferro”. Além disso, sente que ali “a escala é humana”. Todo o bairro para ela é encantador. “Gosto muito porque tem um lado popular e outro de bairro sofisticado, o que é um convívio saudável.” Dedicada à ourivesaria e joalharia contemporâneas, a loja da Paula tem peças de autor feitas à mão por vários artistas. Paula Crespo has a special affection for Rua da Esperança, where she opened her shop Reverso Artes e Ofícios ten years ago. “Some of the buildings are lovely,” she says, “and it’s one of the streets where there are still lots of iron balconies.” Besides that, she feels that here things are on a “human scale”. The whole neighbourhood is enchanting. “What I really like is that it has a popular and a sophisticated side to it, in a healthy juxtaposition.” Dedicated to contemporary gold and jewellery, Paula’s shop sells handmade designer items made by different artists.

Existem poucas lojas onde o dono recebe uma cliente que o conhece há 32 anos para comprar um garrafão de água, mas é assim que acontece na mercearia Flor da Rampa, do senhor António Pereira Lopes. “Sou um amante desta zona, é isso que me prende aqui”, diz, “já foi mais movimentada, quando os barcos chegavam e isto se enchia de estrangeiros para comprarem vinhos e queijos, agora está mais morto, o comércio está nas mãos dos grandes espaços.” A qualidade e atendimento da mercearia continua o mesmo de sempre, e o senhor António não troca este bairro por nada. There are few shops where the owner can sell a bottle of water to a customer he’s known for 32 years, but that’s the case in Flor da Rampa, the grocer’s that belongs to António Pereira Lopes. “Business used to be better, back when the ships arrived and this place used to fill up with foreigners buying wines and cheeses. Now all the business goes to the big shopping centres.” The quality and service remain the same, though, and António wouldn’t swap the neighbourhood for anywhere else.
