Fundada em 1810, esta fábrica de lanternas e candeeiros é ainda hoje responsável pela iluminação das catedrais portuguesas, palácios e museus. Após o fecho da loja original no Chiado, reuniram-se esforços e reabriu num espaço cedido pela Câmara, com a 7ª geração de proprietários aos comandos e o antigo mestre Rufino no ofício de latoeiro. Num futuro próximo está previsto darem formação na arte da latoaria. Um tesouro a preservar! 3 Founded in 1810, this lantern and lamp factory is still responsible for the lighting in Portugal’s cathedrals, palaces and museums. After the original shop closed in Chiado, the council loaned them a new place, with the 7th generation of the same family in control and master tinsmith Rufino in the workshop. Plans are afoot to provide training in the near future in the art of tinsmithing. Apesar dos tempos difíceis para as lojas históricas, a Ferin, quase com 180 anos, está de ótima saúde. Mudou de gerência mas continua em boas mãos, com José Pinho da Ler Devagar, a trazer novidades. A livraria mantém o estilo clássico, com as estantes em madeira de 1840, mas ganhou novas funções: no andar de baixo, além dos lançamentos, há um bar, concertos, peças de teatro e ainda um recanto dedicado ao livro manuseado e raro! 3 Despite the trying times for historic shops, Ferin Bookshop, almost 180 years old, is in rude health. Its management has changed but it’s still in good hands, with José Pinho from Ler Devagar taking the reins. Há uns anos, o infortúnio bateu à porta desta livraria centenária, mas felizmente a mítica loja reabriu em formato de alfarrabista, sob a alçada da Livraria Castro e Silva. Qualquer amante de livros passou aqui largos tempos folheando, indagando sobre publicações raras e muitas vezes encontrando o que procurava. O ambiente antigo mantém-se e, além dos livros, acolhe exposições. 20 valores para as montras, um prazer de se ver! 3 A few years ago, misfortune hit this mythical centenarian bookshop, but fortunately it has reopened as an antique bookseller’s under the name of Livraria Castro e Silva. Any lover of books spent long hours browsing titles here, exploring rare publications and often finding what they were looking for. The old-style atmosphere remains and, besides the old books, hosts exhibitions.
