Esta é uma homenagem a quem vive este bairro no seu dia-a-dia. Every neighbourhood is constructed from stories. Of the past, of houses, of monuments and of people. It is they who create the real landscape, the distinct personality of each place. This is a tribute to those for whom this neighbourhood is home.

A conversa decorre na sua loja, um dos prédios mais bonitos da Av. da Liberdade. Um prédio que sempre adorou mas que nunca pensou que viesse a ser seu. Com um percurso notável de quase 30 anos como designer de jóias, Maria João Bahia, continua a gostar acima de tudo do trabalho de oficina e do desafio de trabalhar os materiais tradicionais, como o ouro e a prata, de formas pouco convencionais. O conceito da loja é invulgar no meio da ourivesaria: todas as peças são desenhadas por si e feitas ali mesmo. Um caminho mais difícil mas o único que sempre lhe fez sentido. Our chat takes place at her shop, one of the nicest in Av. da Liberdade. A building she had always loved but never imagined might be hers one day. With nearly 30 years as a jewellery designer behind her, Maria João Bahia still enjoys the workshop and the challenge of working with traditional materials in unconventional ways. The concept behind the shop is unusual within the jewellery world: everything is designed by her and made on the premises. It’s a more difficult way of doing things, but the only one that feels right.
