ARCO DA RUA AUGUSTA
O Terreiro do Paço começa a compôr-se aos nossos olhos! A última novidade propagou-se de boca em boca, que é como quem diz, de share em share e, durante algumas noites de Agosto, toda a praça se encheu de curiosos que assistiram à magnificência do espectáculo. Luz, cor e som envolveram toda a gente numa aventura épica libertando exclamações de espanto e alegria. Tudo para celebrar a reabertura do Arco da Rua Augusta que durante seis meses foi sujeito a uma profunda limpeza e restauro. A grande notícia é que, a partir de agora o Arco do Triunfo - entrada gloriosa da Baixa Pombalina, integrado no novo plano da cidade após o terramoto de 1755 - é um monumento que pode ser visitado até ao seu topo, graças a um elevador. A vista daqui não nos deixa mentir, é única e superior. À altura das esculturas de Célestin Anatole Calmels, vemos por completo uma das mais nobres zonas de Lisboa e o rio Tejo, de onde partilhamos, não sem um certo sentimento de glória interior, o mesmo horizonte que D. José I, ali no centro. 3 Terreiro do Paço is taking shape before our very eyes! The most recent event spread by word of mouth (i.e. text by text) and for several nights in August the whole square filled with people eager to see a magnificent light and sound show which involved the massed crowds in an amazing and epic adventure. All in the name of celebrating the reopening of the Arco da Rua Augusta which had been closed for restoration work for six months. The big news is that this triumphal arch the majestic entrance to the new city built after the earthquake in 1755 - can now be visited via a lift which will take you to the very top. And the view once you get there is one of a kind. Standing level with the sculptures by Calmels, you overlook one of the city’s central areas and the river.
