TERREIRO DO PAÇO, RECUPERAÇÃO DA ALA NASCENTE Foi o cenário perfeito para as entradas reais em Lisboa, foi o palco de grandes desventuras históricas e de enchentes heróicas. Já foi de outras cores, já foi invadido por carros e, mais tarde, considerado deserto e mal aproveitado. O Terreiro do Paço é uma espécie de praça-anciã de todas as nossas praças; já viu muita coisa. E daí esta vontade comum em devolver às pessoas tudo o que este quadrado majestoso de cidade pode e deve ser. Os esforços foram reunidos e agora, um ano após ter sido reabilitada a ala poente, é a vez de se estenderem as comemorações para o lado de lá: a ala nascente. Centros lúdicos e culturais, restaurantes para todos os gostos, esplanadas solarengas à luz do Tejo, música a ecoar vinda das arcadas e gaivotas a sobrevoar as nossas cabeças. Ao fundo, o Cais das Colunas, embebido na água branda do rio, arranca suspiros aos mais inquietos. É lindíssima em dias de sol, enigmática em dias cinzentos. E o melhor de tudo, cabemos lá todos. Entertainment and cultural centres, restaurants to suit all tastes, sunny pavement cafés beside the Tagus, music echoing from under the arcades and seagulls flying overhead. At the far end, the river lapping gently against the quay, the Cais das Colunas, becalms the more restless. It's stunning on a sunny day and enigmatic on a grey one and, best of all, there's room for everyone! And that means everyone! Because Lisbon now has a proper square!
