José
Para José Pereira da Silva, a Baixa de Lisboa é um terreno familiar. A sapataria Ratinho, conhecida por todos, foi aberta pelo seu bisavô em 1920. Zé visitava o pai à hora do almoço e passava ali algum tempo nas férias. Depois de se licenciar em Gestão, iniciou ali a sua vida profissional, e juntou à Ratinho a Bandarra e mais tarde a Camper. Continua a gostar muito da Baixa, diz que “está sempre a mudar, e isso é natural”. Gostaria apenas que à sua volta houvesse “menos passividade, menos queixas, e que se agisse mais”. For José Pereira da Silva, Lisbon’s Baixa is familiar territory. Ratinho, the shoeshop known to all, was open by his great grandfather in 1920. When he was very small, Zé used to accompany his father in the school holidays and visit often at lunchtime. After finishing business studies, he started his first job there, introducing the Bandarra and later Camper brands. He still has a love for Baixa, which he says “is never the same, is always changing, and that is natural, it’s not bad.” He just wishes that people were “less passive, complained less, and did more”.
João Paulo
João Paulo Dias Pinheiro pertence à quinta geração à frente da Livraria Ferin, fundada em 1840 por uma filha do senhor Ferin, vindo da Bélgica e de origem austríaca. A Ferin sempre teve “um traço de livraria internacional” explica João Paulo, e no início era só de língua francesa. Este cunho continua a fazer a diferença da Ferin, um espaço onde se respira história e que vale a pena visitar só pela beleza. Quanto ao Chiado, João Paulo diz gostar muito da luz e dos transeuntes: “Passam aqui muitos turistas e são pessoas bem-dispostas, isso dá uma certa alegria”. João Paulo Dias Pinheiro belongs to the fifth generation of owners of the Ferin Bookshop, founded in 1840 by the daughter of a Belgian of Austrian extract. Ferin has always had something of the “international bookshop about it”, explains João Paulo, and at the beginning it only sold French language books. This feature continues to set Ferin apart, an establishment that exudes history and is worth a visit just for the architecture. As for Chiado, João Paulo is a big fan of the light and the passers-by.
