o Bairro Alto, porta sim, porta não abrem-se surpresas. Por entre os temperos da pop, as linhas da gastronomia ou as folhas da moda persistem profissões antigas, que sugerem ideias novas. Nesta edição, inspirámo-nos na alma dos mestres encadernadores, para imaginarmos novos usos de uma arte em extinção. Através da encadernação é possível recuperar, adornar e proteger um livro ou criar um novo – livros de honra, teses, etc. O tratamento ao livro inclui, genericamente, o desmantelamento, recuperação das folhas danificadas, costura manual, encadernação, colocação de lombada e acabamentos - douramento com ou sem fio de ouro, tipografia e adornos. Os materiais são bastante diversificados, desde papéis a cartolinas e papiro, passando pelas peles, tecidos e sintéticos, sem esquecer a tipografia. Os encadernadores também fazem objectos únicos a pedido. Por isso, aceite a nossa fantasia. Escolha tecidos originais, adorne com foto memórias, pinte a gosto e reinvente os seus objectos. Ofereça o seu talento: cadernos de ilustrações, blocos de pensamentos, capas de desenho, livros de cozinha e álbuns sonhados são algumas sugestões. n Bairro Alto, every other doorway reveals a surprise. Amid the flavouring of pop, the stripes of gastronomy or the pages of fashion, ancient professions persist that give rise to new ideas. This issue, we are inspired by the spirit of the master bookbinders to imagine new uses for an art in danger of extinction. Through binding, it is possible to repair, embellish and protect a book or create a new one – comment books, theses, etc. The process generally involves taking the book apart, repairing the damaged pages, stitching it together by hand, binding, attaching the spine and adding the finishing touches – gilding with or without gold thread, typography and trimmings. The materials are highly diverse, ranging from paper to card and papyrus, by way of parchment, fabric and synthetics, without mentioning the typography. Bookbinders also make unique objects to order. So accept this whim. Choose some original fabrics, decorate with photo memories, paint to taste and re-invent your prize possessions. Make a gift of your talents: picture books, note pads, designer covers, cooking books and dream albums are just a few suggestions.
