ENGLISH News Materials Labelexpo 2017 PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY AND QUALITY: THIS IS A MUST FOR ASAHI At Labelexpo we met Dieter Niederstadt, Technical Marketing Manager at Asahi Photoproducts. “The label sector for us is quite small, because it represents about 13% of our global flexo business if compared with the markets of corrugated and flexible packaging market. Anyway, we believe that is important for us to be here, because many operators are looking for new technologies, for example digital printing, but at the same time they are looking also for innovations able to increase the productivity of existing machines, optimizing the usage. And this is almost a novelty, because this was not a focus of this industry in the past. Besides printers need quality, and in this sense, we are sure that our water washable plates will achieve it, but at the same time we offer plates that can have better performances, cutting waste and above all increase productivity”. Dieter remembered also a satisfied Asahi customer: Colognia Press, a Czech-based label converter, who needed to find a way to improve OEE. With the flexo plates they were using, they had excessive stop times to clean or replace plates, and for long-run jobs, this meant half of the time to produce the job was downtime. And even for shorter runs, they were not happy with the consistency from beginning to end of the job, often requiring press stops to clean plates or otherwise adjust quality. Now that the company decided to implement the Asahi AWP platemaking system, they can run a full 10 km job without stopping.
