Continuity and Change - Tau 2016

Cllr Parks Tau is the current Chairperson of the South African Local Government Association. Tau was the second democratically elected Executive Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Johannesburg, where he has served as a City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee since the year 2000. Tau is the Chairperson of the South African Local Government Association in Gauteng Province, Chairperson of the South African Cities Network and Deputy Chairperson of the United Nations Habitat Special Advisory Committee on Global Safer Cities Campaign, a Member of the C40 Cities Network Steering Committee and Co-President of the Metropolis network, which looks to build resilient and sustainable cities amidst the pressures of urbanization and climate change. This is in line with his vision, which is captured in the Johannesburg Growth and Development Strategy 2040, to build a resilient and sustainable world class African city.
