Your Future, Your Super legislation – Cbus is standing up for members in the construction industry
The Government wants to change super laws that could see workers new to the industry stapled to a fund that doesn’t provide insurance cover for dangerous occupations. Cbus understands the risks of working in the building and construction industry. That’s why Cbus insurance includes automatic insurance cover for eligible members in the manual occupation category. Under the Government’s proposal, if a new employee does not choose an appropriate superannuation fund, a construction worker maybe left uninsured or be ‘stapled’ to a fund that won’t cover them if they’re seriously injured at work. This proposal will also add red tape for employers. For example, an employer will be required to contact the ATO to identify whether a stapled fund for a new employee exists and the ATO will make rules that employers are required to follow in order to comply with the requirements. What can you do?
