EARTH MOVING???
Process moving earth @ rock from one location to another location .
•
Also called a DOZER.
•
high-powered tractor fitted with a mould board, or a bow-shaped blade fixed in front of the machine. The lower part of the mould board has a cutting edge which is removable. The two side edges of the mould board are blocked so that the materials being pushed forward will not spill from the two sides.
•
the mould board, which can be 1.2 to 4.0 m wide by 0.6 to 1.2 m high, may be rope or hydraulically operated.
advantages
:: less operator fatigue :: ability to travel on paved highways without damaging the surface (crawler tracks) :: ability to operate in rocky formation (crawler tracks) :: ability to travel over muddy surface (wheel mounted) :: higher travel speeds (wheel mounted)
disadvantages
:: simplicity of installation and operation (cable control) :: simplicity or repairing the controls (cable control) :: ability to produce high down pressure on the blade (hydraulic control)
advantages
:: ability to minimise adverse effects of high rolling resistance by laying down its own road :: ability to handle severe grades :: ability to economically selfload some materials :: best suited for large areas of shallow excavation :: capable of producing a very smooth and accurate formation level
disadvantages
:: unsuitable for haulage over public roads and for deep excavation in small areas.
advantages
:: have much higher speeds and operates best on firm surfaces :: wider variety of sizes :: can be run on pavement
